Rising Sun
Roy did not know what made him rise out of bed at five o'clock in the morning.
He just awoke, exactly at the point when the clock struck four. It was clearly not the sound his clock made which woke him up. He never woke up to the sound of his clock, it was too soft for him to hear in his deep slumber. He was a very heavy sleeper.
He spent some time trying to search for the cause of his early rising, but gave up after half an hour, for there was nothing. Nothing at all which could have woke him up just when he having such a sweet dream about his little Ed--
Wait!
Edward! That was it. Now he knew. It had something to do with Edward... But what was it? He kept turning over old memories in his brain, desperately looking for it.
He had found it. It was Edward Elric's birthday. He would be twenty-six today. That is, if he had not died a month ago.
Roy washed and dressed quickly, then grabbing a sandwich he had made last night and munching it hurriedly, he drove to the graveyard.
When he arrived, he picked some wild daisies growing by the road. He remembered that Edward loved this kind of flowers very much.
He walked over to Edward Elric's grave and put down the flowers. By this time, the dark sky was turning a lighter shade of blue.
Roy watched as a faint golden glow came from the hills. The sun peeped out from its hiding place, slowly rising above the hills. It rose a little faster than Roy expected it to though. Oh, yes, Roy had never watched a sunrise before. Maybe he had done so when he was still a little child, but he had forgotten about it already if he did. Above the golden glow, there was bright orange colour. The land basked in the beautiful light of the rising sun.
Sad memories were brought back as Roy watched. He remembered there was this once when Edward had asked him to wake him up early in the morning so that they could watch sunrise together. He had refused to do so, saying that a sunrise was probably just the same as a sunset, which they watched together so often they were getting tired of it, so why bother? Now he regretted his decision.
A sunrise was definitely not the same as a sunset.
Sunrise had its own glory, its own magnificence. It was more breathtaking in a way. It also signified the start of a new day, it brought life to everything, while sunset represented the end of a day, when the land rested in darkness once more. How could he be so foolish to think that a sunrise was the same as a sunset?
It would certainly have been wonderful if he could watch the sunrise with his dear little Edward.
But, alas, now the chance was gone. He once had the oppurtunity to do so and he missed it just because he was too lazy to wake up early that time.
He shook his head at his own stupidity and left the graveyard quietly.
A/N: Yay! I finally managed to write the sequel to Setting Sun, as I had wanted to do for a long time. I haven't actually watched sunrise before, and I should do that some time soon... Please read & review!
