Fallen to the Whim of Shadows

I stand alone in utter darkness
plagued by visions of deceit and unhappiness
What glimmer of light may have been
has receded behind a cloud of ash
Every which way I turn
be it this way or that
Hatred, like a smoking gun
lingers in the ruins of destruction
I am trapped within this fallen city
with blood smears upon my hands
Moving forward, running faster
there is no turning back
In shadows I slip away
hiding, crying, fearing
Until a dark angel swoops down
bearing assurances for my broken mind
I tuck him in the shadow of my heart
as he holds me to his bosom
In the untrusting darkness
his wings are shattered
He falls, he slips away
another life claimed by the battlefield
Twisted in my arms he lays
his braid stained with a crimson gloss
I laugh
standing in the wake of gunfire and tragedy
I laugh
as bombs rain down to split the earth
My laughter turns to tears as I cry
the shadows they do not lift
My angel, my Duo
now dead because of me and my insanity
Oh gentle heart within my chest beating
stop for but a moment
Give him life for he has none
take my breath and make it his
This darkness overpowers me
my yearning heart too must bleed
I turn the knife upon myself
shattering my own hopes and dreams
Do not fear this darkness, angel
together we'll escape in death
Wait but a moment for me
