Southern Hick

Mustang's team had been working peacefully until the door was suddenly slammed open. This wasn't completely abnormal, but their youngest officer had been in Resembool for repairs. This was the sign of him returning to them once again.

"Hey, Chief!" Havoc greeted when he saw the familiar blonde enter the room after kicking the door open.

"Hey, guys," Ed replied, looking back behind him to make sure that his younger brother was behind him - though it wasn't necessary to check when the seven-foot tall suit of armour clanked each time he walked. "Mustang in his office?"

"Yes," Hawkeye answered. They all knew that Ed was to report to Mustang for duty after returning from repairs. This time was no different, though Edward had been in Resembool for much longer than expected this time - two weeks. Usually it was just a few days, and the other officers suspected that it was because Ed requested more time off than needed when getting his repairs. They all took bets on what that meant - whether he was homesick or it was about his mechanic, who they all knew was a pretty blonde.

"Hold on, wait," Havoc spoke, stopping the teen in his tracks when he had already begun to make his way over to the inner office.

"What?" Ed asked.

"Something seems different..." Havoc trailed off. "Did you get a tan or something?"

"Very funny." Ed rolled his eyes. "I don't have time for this, Havoc, I gotta get to Mustang 'fore he yells at me."

"That's it!" Havoc exclaimed, and the others looked at him like he was insane. Even Hawkeye looked up from her work to find out what the Second Lieutenant had discovered.

"What're you fussin' about?" Ed asked again.

"Do you guys hear it?" Havoc asked the other officers, a grin stretched across his face.

"It would be a lot easier to know what you were talking about if you'd tell us what to look for," Falman spoke.

"Ed's got a southern accent!" Havoc exclaimed. Ed's eyes widened slightly.

"Say something else, Ed," Breda said. "Come on, I need to hear it for myself now that I know what I'm looking for."

Though, instead of speaking, Ed turned his gaze away from the two, pretending that they didn't exist.

"It's nothing to be embarrassed about," Fuery interjected. "I mean, you're from Resembool, right? It's only natural for your speech to revert to where you're from after spending some time there."

"I don't have a southern accent!" Ed exclaimed. "Al, defend me here!"

"Well, brother..." Alphonse trailed off. "After spending time with Granny...We both pick up on her speech."

"Yeah, even Al's voice is different," Havoc announced. "It's confirmed; you guys have southern accents when you go back home."

The door to the inner-office suddenly opened.

"I assume the noise must be caused because Fullmetal is back," Mustang spoke, his eyes falling on the fuming blonde. "Well, get in here."

Ed glared daggers toward Havoc before heading into the inner-office.

"Relax, Edward," Mustang began, putting a hand on the teen's shoulder, stopping him before he could completely enter. "It's not your fault you're a southern hick."

"I'M NOT A HICK!"

Pinako always sounds southern in my mind, and with Ed and Al being from the country, they've got to have some kind of accent, right? And even if they didn't, spending time with Pinako would probably bring it out. Anyway, let me know what you think!
