The Forbidden Fruit
Peter looked at them. The happiest couple in the world, finally dancing in their wedding day. She was wearing a white dress, like any bride would and looked like royalty. The smile on her face was incredible and the sparkle in her eyes was so strong that it could blind every man. Her hair was up and her face were glowing. They were meant for each other. The groom never looked happy as he did now and probably never felt that happy until now. His hair was combed to the side, like it always was and his blue eyes looked so warm that Peter couldn't help but feel miserable for himself. He wanted her so much. She, who was so dear to him, so lovely, so protective. Connor was a great guy, for sure, but how couldn't Lindsay notice him too? Why couldn't she give him a chance?
"Having fun" He heard Clair's voice. He turned around and smiled bitterly. "You're jealous of him, aren't you"
"I'm happy for them." Peter wanted to stay politically correct.
"But you can't help but feeling sad because you lost her. She isn't yours." Clair said. The tone of her voice was sad as if she understood what he felt.
"No. I want her, them to be happy. He's making her happy. She's making him happy and that..."
"Makes you miserable."
"No, that's what important." Peter said. If Clair only knew how right she was.
"Does her happiness make you happy" Clair asked. "Or you're just saying that so you won't admit you lost again, that Connor took what you wanted again"
"I want them to be happy. They're my friends." Peter felt a lump in his throat threatening to tear it apart. "Excuse me." He said and got up. "May I have a dance with my sister" He asked Connor and Lindsay jokingly. Lindsay laughed and pulled away from Connor.
"Sure." Connor quickly found another dancing partner while Peter took Lindsay's hand and gently lead the dance. "Are you having fun" Her smiled exposed two rows of white teeth. "Found anyone" She teased him. "Anyone that you want to get to know?"
"The girl that I want to get to know is already taken." He didn't realize what he had said until he saw the shocked look on her face.
"Peter" She whispered, barely able to breath. "Pete"
"Shhh... Don't say anything. I didn't want to ruin the happiest night in your life. Maybe I drank too much. I didn't mean what I said. I..." Before he could understand what was happening, everything became blurred. He heard distant cries and shrieks and then his world blackened.
Everyone looked at Lindsay, who was sobbing uncontrollably, holding Peter's motionless body in her hands. Connor tried to pull her away, but it was as if someone had glued her hands to him.
"He's dead." Clair said, barely able to speak. "Looks like an heart attack." She closed Peter's eyes.
