This is my first Fruits Basket fanfic. It's very dark and angsty. If that stuff bothers you, hit the back button, don't read this and then whine at me for abusing Kyo. It is essential to the plot.

Prologue: Reign of Terror
"I'll get you rat-boy!" Kyo yelled, running at Yuki. He went to hit him but Yuki ducked and caught Kyo with an uppercut to his chin. Kyo went flying into a tree. He got back up immediately and finally caught Yuki off guard, managing to kick him in the stomach.
"Kyo," said a voice from the shadows. "What are you doing?"
Yuki stood up and looked to the trees behind where Kyo was standing and froze with fear. Kyo turned around and gasped.
"Akito..." he said.
Akito walked over to Kyo and wrapped an arm around him. "How could you lay a hand on my beloved Yuki?"
Kyo stiffened.
Yuki was frozen still with terror.
"I think I will have to re-educate you on the proper way to treat people," said Akito. "I have a nice little room-"
"No!" Yuki yelled.
"Do not interrupt me, Yuki-chan," said Akito. "I'm going to take you to the main house, Kyo. You must learn this lesson."
Akito started forward, still holding Kyo by the shoulders. Kyo walked stiffly with Akito past Yuki. Akito gave Yuki an evil grin and disappeared into the darkness.
Yuki fell to his knees. Kyo, he thought, I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Not even Kyo.
Tohru came out to find Yuki. "Yuki," she said, rushing to his side. "What's wrong?"
Yuki stood up and sighed, giving Tohru a fake grin. "Nothing at all, I just tripped," he said. "Is dinner ready?"
"Yes, that's what I came to tell you." She looked around. "Um... where's Kyo-kun?"
"He... he's going to be spending some time at the main house for a while."
"Okay, let's go eat then."
"I'm not that hungry, actually. I'll be inside in a moment." He smiled again. Tohru smiled back.
Poor Kyo, thought Yuki.
