A/N: Sequel, I suppose it can be classed as, to I Know Now This Is Who I Really Am. Also the first part of what shall, hopefully, at one point, be a series of Young Dracula fics set when Vlad is roughly 21 years old. The character speaking in this fic is known simply as Jones.
Misery Business
Every thing was going right in my life before he showed up. I mean, I had earned a promotion at work, my brothers had been enrolled in the slayer training academy, and I even had a romance on the cards. I was respected at work, liked even. And I enjoyed my job, I know slaying may not seem like the best job in the world but knowing I was out there protecting people from the evils that infect this world, from vampires, it's a good feeling.
Then he shows up and everything goes to hell.
It wasn't even like he was invited, he just showed up one day, leaning against the wall in her office, a smirk on his face. Damn vampire. Almost instantly he was a member of the organisation, working just under the owner. Just because he's the son of Count Famous.
Oh that's another thing, the minute he showed up, it was like our whole manifesto changed. We used to just go out and slay vampires, plain and simple. Slayed any other evil that showed up as well. But after he showed up, we could only kill vampires if they were causing pain to others, if they weren't they were to be left alone. It's unheard of for a slaying organisation. If her father knew of this... He even brought along some of his vampiric family and friends, they would just turn up. And she doesn't say anything!
I swear, the worst thing is what he's done to Selene.
Selene is in charge here, and before he showed up, we had a thing. And it was going well. Really well, but like I've said before, he shows ujp and everything goes to hell. She starts to become...edgy around me. Like she's questioning our relationship - like she's questioning having a nice, normal relationship with a normal person. It doesn't help that he was always with her. In her office. In her private dining room. In her bedroom. He was just always there. Next thing I know she's telling me that she's sorry but she can't 'do this anymore'. And, to cut a long story short, our relationship is over. Never seen him smirk as much as he did when we broke up.
They're closer than I've ever seen her be with anyone. He's her right hand man, her trump card. When everyone else fails, she can count on him.Of course, if we all had the benefit of supernatural strength it would make things easier. But it's different than that. I hate admitting this, but they work. Two halves of the same puzzle.
But it shouldn't be that way! He's a vampire, he's the freakin' king of vampires It shouldn't be him and Selene! It should be me and her... I should be the second in command, not him. My life was great before he showed up.
Damn Vlad Dracula.
