Disclaimer: Romeo and Juliet is not mine. It all belongs to William Shakespeare. Or Christopher Marlowe, whomever you prefer.

Author's Note: This was an extra credit assignment that I did for English last year. My teacher gave my class 10 projects to choose from, and one of them included was to write an epitaph that would be on Romeo and Juliet's graves. So here you go, my "epitaph" for them.

This is from the POV of mourners who have come to visit their graves.

And for those who were wondering – yes, this has been uploaded before, but I took it down for editing. Hopefully this version's better.

Here we mourn

for two young lives lost

the downfall of two lovers

Yet we are not to mourn

for there's no sadness

Only happiness –

don't grieve, we're told

though Romeo and Juliet had taken their lives

for each other

and their families

A selfless act, a sacrifice –

there's no reason to grieve.

Two families that were torn apart by hatred

embroiled in a never-ending feud

in the middle of all this

stood Romeo and Juliet –

whose unwavering love for one another

inevitably, ultimately led to their downfall.

With no thought nor caring about the consequences,

they strived to be together

no matter how or what

They were together on earth

in life

and they were together

in death.

Nothing could express what feelings they had

which would, in the end, lead to this.

Now as we stand here and mourn on a love

doomed

that couldn't be prevented from happening

slowly the tears stop

and we can only stand here in silence

thinking about a love that was always there

never-ending, neverstopping

as we end this lover's lament.
