Broken hopes

Feliks was expecting a lot from this visit. He hoped this was the first step to finally end this war between him and Ivan. Everything seemed to go on good. When he was watching in TV, how Tusk and Putin were talking to each other – they seemed to be so friendly, so… joyful – he couldn't help, but smiling. The hope that it was the first step in his reconciliation with Ivan, was growing as long as he was observing both prime ministers.

And when they've finally started the conference with press, Poland's heart started to pounding quickly. They were talking about Polish-Russian economic cooperation, what had made Feliks even happier. Yes, he and Ivan were neighbors. So close to each other, yet so different. But that didn't mean they couldn't be nice to each other. Let it be true, please, let it be true…

Someone asked Putin about this Russian documentary that was saying, Poland had secret pact with Hitler. Feliks frowned, but he was still waiting for Russian's explanation. Putin's words were reasonable, even if few of them had made Feliks a bit angry. Yes, let the past not divide them. Maybe pact Ribbentrop-Molotov was really meanness of Ivan, but it wasn't the real reason of the beginning of WW2.

And when after few hours the celebration started and Putin reproved this damn pact between Reich and USSR; when he asked, why reconciliation between Poles and Russians couldn't be possible, when Polish-German and German-French was possible, Feliks felt that something important is happened on his eyes.

Ivan – Poland was thinking back then. – if you really want reconciliation… If you're really ready to end this years of enmity between us, please – let's start this long process now. Or else, we always will be enemies. I was never against you. I was against your governments that was hurting me… and you. How many times I have to repeat it? Ivan, oh, Ivan… We might be different, but still I don't want to be your enemy. Ivan, Vanya… Vanya! You might think, I hate you – for partitions, Katyń and other things you had done to me. However Ludwig also had made a lot bad to me, but we were working on our reconciliation and we are now reconciled. I know, you and I can be friends. Just make a first step. Please, Vanya…

But in the end – it was as always. Polish Miss and Russian Mister Newspaper were commenting with their general distance, sometimes even with hate, the speeches of both prime ministers. In the end Tusk and Putin's effort was meaningless. Because "Poles are rusophobic", because "Putin's speech is the manipulating the history". In the end Feliks felt only acrimony, when his hopes were quickly breaking as long as he's holding and reading the gazette. He wanted to cry.

Ivan, oh, Ivan…
