The Team that should have failed.

(I don't own Naruto)

It was Sasuke who had figured it out first. He worked it out that evening after Kakashi had passed them and when they had walked back home, Sakura smiling nervously, Naruto jumping around like an idiot and screeching. When he had spotted Iruka he had run up to him and given him a big hug that left the man gasping for breath.

"We passed! We passed!" yelled Naruto, his grin from ear to ear.

Iruka had looked in shock and had played with his forehead protector, "That's amazing, did you known that Kakashi sensei has never passed anyone who has taken that test?"

Sasuke glanced at Kakashi who had shrugged, taken out his book, turned around and gave a backhanded wave. Iruka put an arm on Naruto's shoulder. "You are really special." Said Iruka proudly.

Naruto gave him a big grin, "Special enough for a bowl of ramen?"

Iruka rolled his eyes and said, "Of course."

When they had all parted and agreed to meet at the bridge the next morning, it hit Sasuke. Where they suppose to fail?

He went home. He would have liked to celebrate, but there was only one of him so he settled for having an extra long shower. When he had finished he sat on his bed and thought it through.

Naruto was an idiot. That was simple enough. Even before his attitude problem, the village had disliked him. For a reason Sasuke didn't know, but would find out one day. He had poor grades at school, wore an orange tracksuit, was loud and just a general delinquent. Not good ninja material. Not someone the Leaf village would want to represent.

Sakura was extremely intelligent. A brilliant student. But she lacked the focus, drive and mental strength to be a ninja. She could quote what to do if an enemy attacked straight from a book. But would she be able to stand there and do it? Obviously whoever had assigned them to Kakashi had hoped she would fail, then turn to her studies and probably be a teacher or a medic.

Himself? It was no secret to the elders of the Leaf Village of how much he detested his brother and what his plans were. The only reason he had wanted to be a ninja was so that he could become strong enough to avenge his clan and that it was what his family had wanted him to be. The elders obviously thought since he had no family, it did not matter what his family had wanted. If he only wanted to be a ninja so he could leave and kill his brother, instead of serving Konoho, why let him be a ninja?

It was practical, it was logical, it was infuriating.

Sasuke fell asleep, not sure what to do with this knowledge.

When he awoke and went to meet the others at the bridge, he thought of telling them his thoughts. When he saw that grinning idiot and Sakura playing with a flower. He stopped. Knowledge may be power, but the truth just hurt.

They had done what dozens before them couldn't, they were team seven, he thought. No matter what plans and ideas had been in place, they had done it. They were Genin.

"Whats taking so long? Yelled Naruto.

Sasuke joined them and Sakura asked, "What are you thinking of Sasuke?"

Sasuke looked over the bridge into the water. Naruto was strong, he had surprised them once, he would no doubt do it again. He was also very stubborn. Something he could relate to. Sakura was smart, but naïve. A very rare combination in a ninja. Something that would help bond her team even more. The very weakness that these people had labeled them and hoped would make them fail, would actually make them even more formidable.

He had no doubt that with time and experience, Naruto and Sakura would change.

"Nothing." He replied to Sakura.

He just hoped that would change him too.

Hahaha my attempt at being deeper than a fishbowl. Tell me what you think!
