Strange Stroke of Luck

By Cadeeo

It hadn't exactly been what she'd thought, you know, reuniting with… him. It had actually come as a shock, a really mind-blowing shock. And it wasn't exactly what she'd dreamt about, imagined about in the hundreds (sorry, thousands) of scenarios where he would come for her, just stepping out from nowhere as he had done back in Sunnydale, while she would restlessly search the graveyards.

Apparently he hadn't seen it fit to even tell her he was… alive and very much kicking. She was apparently not that important. It wasn't like they'd spent their last years in Sunnydale as friends in a totally platonic way, no not even close.

She'd felt the same feeling before when Angel had come back from his time in Hell, that feeling of hopelessness and utter relief and all those other feelings she really didn't feel like putting names on. Except this time it was not for Angel. It felt the same, but still it was totally different. He had always been different from Angel, even though they were from the same family and had spent a good twenty years hunting together before Angel had upped and left for time in solitude and broodiness.

The strange wonders of Earth and whatever strange stroke of luck ruling it. Happiness was always taken away from her when she needed it the most and then when she was finally, finally, moving on and could actually sleep for a whole of six hours… well, that strange stroke of luck seemed to say 'hey, it's make let's-make-Buffy-miserable-again time'.

How she hated that luck, if you could even call it luck? That really was an interesting topic… no, not going in that direction right now. There was more pressing issues which needed attention.

Like, for example, that peroxide annoying should-be-dead vampire in front of her, standing there looking all surprised to see her, like he didn't know she was alive, because he always seemed to do.

A startled yelp came from someone that very unsettlingly sounded like herself and he was gaping at her and his blue eyes penetrated into her own hazel ones…

'Oh, bugger!'
