He looked at rose on the pew. Her beautiful blonde hair round her head like a halo. So beautiful… so young… tears, making their way down his cheeks were swiped away with the sleeve of his suit. He wont cry. She would've wanted him to smile, but happiness seemed a million worlds away, but he would walk them all to see her again. The wind in the trees surrounding them seemed to whisper her name, the scent of her on the breeze torturing his senses. He looked around at all the people, all those lives she had touched…another tear escaped; this time free to make its way down his cheek, dripping onto his arm. A man in a suit made his way to the front and started talking, but the doctor hardly listened, he hadn't known her, no-one could sum up how fantastically brilliant rose was. He felt a hand clutch his, Jackie was sat next to him, tears flowing, her eyes glassy, fixed on her daughter. She had told him it wasn't his fault, but he knew it was, the man who had promised to keep her daughter safe…
Rose… his perfect rose…so beautiful...so young…he looked around. Only a few here would really know what happened, the sacrifice she had made to save the world and to save him. A nudge from Pete startled him out of his reverie. The man in a suit had stopped talking. The doctor rose to his feet, tears flowing freely, so not ready for this. Slowly walking over to Rose, he picked her up gently, and turned. Eyes fixed straight ahead, he lead the way out of the garden to the spot chosen by Pete and Jackie under an oak tree. As he slowly lowered her into the marble coffin, he was praying with every beat of his heart, with every breath that filled his lungs, that she would open her eyes and smile at him. He lowered his head and kissed her cheek.
"Goodbye my rose… may we meet again someday…" he whispered, a sob escaping his throat. "I love you." Walking away from her was the hardest thing he had ever done. With every step, his hearts shattering, twisting, breaking. He was broken, had given up, and this time she wasn't there to repair him.
A storm was approaching. He could feel it deep inside his gut. Even as the TARDIS doors shut behind him, he could already feel the darkness closing in. And in a universe a million miles away, a whisper, just a whisper, made whole worlds shake. Just a whisper…
