OLD FAMILIAR

Axel & Roxas, Roxas' door step

"Pie in the sky!" Axel shouted through the tall (taller even than him) peeling door. He would have used the lion-faced doorknocker, but at first try it had fallen apart and he'd self-consciously kicked it off into the bushes that stood on either side of the porch.

"Hold on," said the voice from the other side of the door. Axel tapped his foot impatiently, looking under the lid of the pie-box. Smelt like pumpkin pie. He wished he could bake as well as Kairi. (Or at all.) It took a few minutes for the recipient to open the door, but it wasn't like the Delivery Man (Yes, man. This had more dignity than "delivery boy".) could go anywhere, or he wouldn't get paid his precious minimum wage.

The door opened with an anti climatic and droned-out creak.

"Pie in the Sky bakery, where every slice is a piece of heaven," he said dully. Hey, he didn't make it up. He just delivered the damn pies.

The house looked like the House that sat quietly in the corner of the neighborhood and was occasionally broken into by nosey children who wanted to prove it wasn't haunted. Hell, he remembered being that Kid. He wasn't easily spooked. But he didn't expect the Recipient to be a short, so-cute-you-could-eat blonde. He was 'posed to be old and batty, with taxidermy heads hanging right smack in the entrance. No taxidermy heads. Just a simple table with a drawer covered in unopened envelopes.

"Looks good," he said. Blondie looked positively ravenous, and he fished through his wallet for munny. "Uh, how much?"

Axel realized he'd been staring, and coolly explained that first time buyers were not charged. Sort of like a gift, or a free taste test. He shrugged, because he didn't understand it himself. If he didn't get them free already, he'd order them from different locations under the guise of being new business.

"Roxas! Is that the Pie Man?" A chocolate-haired boy suddenly appeared at Blondie's shoulder. He smiled huge and said, "Smells delicioussss. I love pumpkin."

"Yeah, Sora, he's the Pie Man. Stop hovering," he added. Sora pouted, falling back. "Thanks." The blonde said awkwardly.

"No problem." The taller of the two still stood smiling stupidly from behind his brother, like he was expecting something. "Well, we've got," Axel stuck out his fingers, because it helped keep his trains of thought firmly on the tracks. "A special, half off on Tuesdays, and our Pie of the Week is always discounted. This week is boysenberry."

"Mmmmm, that sounds really good, huh, Roxas? We should drop by when we get all moved in."

"Yeah, sure."
