Author's Note: Hello, everyone! I'm baaaaaaack! Did ya miss me? I know it's been FOREVER since I've updated pretty much anything, let alone this story! I'm so sorry. Life got in the way...but I do plan to finish this and all other stories. Since it's been so long, I realized this prologue needed some updating. It's changed a little bit, so give it a read and let me know what you think!

Prologue: The Final Run

I rounded the corner, feet pounding against the concrete as I ran, heart beating against my chest. Was this it? Would this be the last run? Would they finally lock me away forever? I rounded another corner and let out a loud sigh. "Dead End", the sign taunted. I raised my hands in the air, let out a loud curse, and slowly turned around. Didn't take long for the canines to show up. Only one officer, rounded the corner. The younger one. I wondered briefly where the older one was, but didn't have much time to think about it. This guy was the super beefy, all business, tough guy kind. He stepped toward me and I growled, causing him to jump back a little. He sco*wled and I smirked. He stepped behind me, and swiped my feet from under me, causing me to land on the ground…hard. He kneeled above me, cuffing me. As he did so, he wore a smirk. I laughed. Touche, big guy. I looked up as the older cop came around the corner, breathing heavily.

"What the hell happened here, Rookie?"

"She was resisting, Sir."

I didn't bother to correct the lie. I had already earned the charge by running, so let him have his moment. The older officer nodded, unsure if he was getting the truth, but having no way to prove anything. He sighed and started reading me my rights.

"Kagome Higurashi, you are under arrest for the illegal possession of and intent to distribute heroin. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can, and will, be held against you in a court of law."

I stopped listening. I'd heard it all before. This wasn't the first time I'd had my face shoved into dirt or concrete. It wasn't the first time I'd felt the tight embrace of the cold steel on my wrists. It damn sure wasn't the first time I'd heard this. I blamed this all on him. Inuyasha…if h had been there, like he promised…if he hadn't left…maybe this wouldn't be happening again. I was pulled from my thoughts, as I felt the rookie jerking me to my feet. He led me to the car and shoved me in the back. Here we go again.

*One Hour Later*

I looked up as officer John Palomas walked in...the older cop from my arrest. He was always my arresting officer, so I knew him well. He walked over and sat down across from me, laying my file on the desk.

"Heroin, Kagome?"

"This was the first time. Bad idea all around."

He scoffed and rolled his eyes.

"I'd say. Why do you keep doing this?"

"It's my only way."

"Kagome, there's always another way."

Well, duh. I knew there was another way...I just didn't have the slightest clue of what it was. I'd been doing this since I was ten.

"I said it's my only way. Not the only way."

"Aren't you at all concerned about the consequences?"

"No. Juvie is a cakewalk at this point."

I tried to remain tough. He didn't buy it.

"You know Judge Mathers as well as me. You know he wants to give you real prison time. This may be enough for him to do it. Your rapsheet isn't exactly helping."

He shoved the folder toward me. I started looking through it.

Wow, they had already added tonight's charges. That was pretty impressive, actually. I smirked and slid the file back over to him.

"The paperwork department was actually speedy this time. Good job."

He rolled his eyes.

"When are you gonna cut the act? We both know it isn't really you."

"Never gonna happen, John."

He ignored the fact that I'd called him 'John'. He simply stood, grabbed his folder, and walked to the door. Before he left, he turned to me.

"Kagome, if by some miracle you make it out of this, you really need to get your shit together. Especially with that baby on the way."

My head snapped up and I growled, but he just walked out. How dare he.

Author's Note: So, yeah...same basic premise, but I just updated it a bit. Still, I hope you enjoyed! Chapter One should be up some time over the weekend. Until then, I love you guys. See you next chapter!
