Bella slept soundly as the soft breeze from her bedroom window ruffled her hair. She had fallen asleep in the rocking chair in the corner of the room. The light sound of he breathing echoed softly through the room, mingling with the sounds of the forest coming in through the window. She had left the window open for him of course, awaiting his arrival, waiting to be in the presence of her soul mate.
Edward gazed at her lovingly from the other side of the room, taking in her scent as he made his way towards her. Her room always smelled wonderfully, the intoxicating aroma that she carried with her spread across the room. For a moment, he felt the slight tug of time, pulling him back as it seemed to stop. He glided smoothly across the floor to where Bella sat and gazed down at her again.
Her face was calm and peaceful, as it usually was when she slept. He observed her eyelashes as they fluttered from time to time as she dreamt. Her mouth was parted slightly, motionless. Her sleep talking hadn't yet begun since each time it was about to start, her bottom lip would twitch, just a bit, but enough to excite Edward. He absolutely loved listening to her unguarded conversations to herself as she slept. Hearing her say his name in a low whisper each night made it all the more anticipating.
Edward caught himself smiling, his smile leaning closer to one side than the other as it usually did. The human emotions that Bella made him feel were amazing. He couldn't remember being this ecstatic in all of the decades he had been "living", if that's what it could be called. The warmth of her touch was enough to drive him into ecstasy. Something that was wrong in so many senses, felt so right.
He lifted Bella off of the rocking chair with ease, being as gentle as he could manage. Edward felt her shiver at his touch and he felt a small twang of guilt. His cold skin couldn't possibly be as much of a thrill to her as hers was to him.
"Edward…" A soft murmur resounded through the silence.
Bella moved slowly in his arms, shifting he position. Edward began to hum her lullaby, his voice soft along the peaceful melody. Bella shifted in his arms a bit more and called out to him in her sleep.
"Ed…ward…"
Edward smiled again as he tucked Bella into her bed. Her breathing returned to its normal softened state as she was lulled back to sleep. She quickly found herself a comfortable pose among her sheets. Edward lay down beside her, shifting his body to match hers and to keep their skin from touching again. Bella shifted her body again and Edward shifted his along with her. She was going to talk again, and Edward didn't want to miss a single syllable.
"Edward… I love you…" Bella whispered through her pillow.
"I love you too."
