Rain, always rain isn't it, it's never hail or fog or snow, no, it's always rain in the sky when you feel at your worst. That's how it was today for me, but I'm getting ahead of myself my names Hannah nova but most call me Flerna, as a nickname my father had for me, and only those closest called me Hannah anyway. If you're wondering what I am? Well obviously I'm your typical 16 year old human girl from Valakare, a coastal city surrounded by mountains and forests.
Well it was my home at least, now though I think I'm in more trouble than I ever got into. It all started earlier today when I came back from a typical day from the hospital for me, yeah I got thrown of the school roof again but somehow I survived like I always did don't ask me how or why, not even I know but I always came out with a lot of scars but never broken bones or anything serious. Most would be grateful for that but me? I hate it cos it made me a freak. Anyway I got home and was greeted by the smell of my father's cooking.
My mother died three years ago leaving my father to raise both me and my younger sister Krystal alone, with the help of my older cousins Vincent and Kyle of course. Sighing I stumbled up the stairs of this massive house father owned just outside the towns official borders, to be honest with a building this size I'm surprised father called it a garage rather than a mansion. Chuckling at the thought I carried on to my bedroom that I had since I was born my sister having one just down the hall too, my room was decent, blue walls with thick curtains to keep the warmth in, and a large bed with a white duvet to light the inside up a bit, along with a TV and games cabinet in the corner resting in front of my larger sofa bed I always kept for guests though with all the rooms in the house I hardly needed it.
Checking that everything was in place I decided to just relax by playing some of my most favoured game series, Jak and Daxter, placing the game into the console I was about to play when Krystal came in with a smile, I know she smiled cos I looked over to her, sadly about two months ago a nasty woman called Yvaine Jade tried to kidnap her, if it wasn't for my father and the Chou dojo's master Kasuke, I'm sure she would have succeeded in killing her, but the whole event left Krystal's vocal chords damaged to a point that she couldn't speak. Though currently, she was taking sign language lessons.
"Hey Krys, wanna join me over here?" I asked earning a happy nod from her as she came over to sit down by me. The one main thing that we had in common was this game, the fact that we loved the characters in it, the jokes, even the world it takes place in.
We took it in turns laying the first Jak and Daxter game, until dad called up saying that dinner was ready, and judging from the smell earlier, it was his famous rabbit stew. Giggling we paused the game and got up, racing each other to the stairs as we always did though I always won being the quickest of the two, when we reached the stairs though I was beginning to feel uneasy watching Krystal slide down the bannister as I rushed down the steps to the main dining room, but I paused noticing the lights were beginning to flicker and the radio dad had on was jumping a bit.
I'm sure dad noticed it too, but he was looking out the window towards Jade manor on the other side of the city, and his look, made me more anxious, his eyes were narrowed and his mouth was tightened in a concerned scowl as if searching for something. After a while things settled down and we sat down to dinner, father of course mentioning my hospital visit for the third time this week but was happy that today was the day I could finally leave school life behind and move on with my life, but the problem was, I didn't know what would be my next step.
After we had finished father left to wash the dishes, leaving me and Krystal to continue our game play, though after an hour father had come in and told us to get our coats and boots on, saying it was time to visit mom.
Smiling softly as Krystal left I nodded and grabbed my blue hoodie and black boots slipping them on as I rushed down knowing Krystal was already there with father waiting for me. "I'm on my way dad" I called down to him as he opened the front door. Just as the lights began to flicker again, but I hardly noticed as I raced outside expecting Krys to follow but when I looked back dad had grabbed Krystal's arm keeping her in place and was reaching to grab me.
It was then that I heard something weird, like a thunder crack mixed with a gunshot, and this weird light was growing from behind me making turn round to face the sudden gust of wind. What I was saw was unbelievable. Coming from the mountains or rather Jade manor was a strong beam of light shooting up into the darkening evening sky, disappearing into the stars before stopping, leaving a white glowing orb in the sky about as big as the moon. It hung there pulsating a few moments before it seemed to appear squashed then exploded. Causing green lightning to shoot in multiple directions all over town and one even went into the sky just missing the moon itself. And one was heading. Straight for us!
Dad instantly pulled Krystal into the house telling her to get to the basement before he tried running out to get me, but I was frozen to the spot staring at the light coming closer at such a fast pace I felt like I was in a science fiction movie, but just before the light could hit me it opened up like a swirling vortex blowing everything around it away including my dad, but strangely not me. No instead it was the exact opposite. It was pulling me in! Shocked out of my daze I tried to turn around and run towards my dad who was struggling to gain footing towards me. Reaching out with his right hand as the wind was blowing away any other sounds before it could reach my ears.
I kept running and running not moving any further away I could feel the grass under me turning to mud making it even harder to run on. Before long I slipped letting loose a scream as the vortex sunk its grip into me and pulled me with great speed and force into its gaping mouth.
Screaming I continued to reach for my dad as he reached for me as the hole closed around me encasing me in a blinding green light and deafening rush of wind, I could feel my body be thrown around like a rag doll as if I was sliding down a water flume ride in the local water resort. The more twists and turns I was flung into the more I felt like I was gonna die or be pulled apart. This went on for what felt like days until finally I could see another opening. But not to the welcoming home I always knew. No, this was far less pleasant, what I saw ahead was a narrow corridor with cell bars lining the walls and a harsh metallic floor bathed in a red lights glow. And it was the floor that this devouring snake was aiming to spit me out at.
I could feel the air pressure around me tightening before rapidly loosening making me pick up speed shooting to the cold dark metal floor, leaving me losing consciousness on contact with the sound of air vanishing with a whoosh.
