Damned plot bunnies! Yes, another Reaper story!
"Say goodbye, Derek Morgan." The gun clicked. Foyet fired.
Hotch and Rossi raced to the house. They were carrying a stretcher with a dead body on it. Hotch felt sick.
He raced towards the body.
He lifted the cover and there laid Derek Morgan with a bullet right through the head.
Hotch stared at the body. He couldn't stop staring. That old sick feeling returned. He turned over to the side of the house and vomitted. Rossi saw the body of Derek Morgan and felt sick himself.
This wasn't happening. Derek Morgan WASN'T dead.
Hotch sank to his steps.
Rossi knelt beside him.
"Aaron..."
"It's my fault," he whispered. "It's my fault." Hotch bit his lip.
Rossi closed his eyes and knew now was not the time to convince Hotch it wasn't his fault. Hotch wouldn't listen.
"We...have to tell the team, Aaron." He was trying to do everything to keep calm and composed, but his stomach churned at the thought of Derek Morgan being dead.
"Derek...didn't deserve this," whispered Hotch. "He didn't...deserve this fate."
"No," Rossi said softly. "He didn't."
Hotch had to keep it together. He couldn't lose it now...he had no right...to lose it now.
Anger filled him as he thought of who did it.
The Reaper. He wanted revenge more than ever now.
A tear rolled down his cheeks before he could stop it.
Rossi bit his lip, unsure of what to say. Unsure of what to think or feel.
"Come on," he finally said as he stood up. "Let's get back to the office. We have to tell the team in person."
Hotch closed his eyes at the horror that would await them as he headed numbly back to the car, Rossi kindly guiding him.
He tried to imagine how the team would react. Garcia...poor Garcia would faint...He doubted she would be able to handle such news. Morgan was her family.
And Reid...Morgan was like a big brother to him...he'd be lost without him. And Emily and Morgan were also close, so was him and JJ. He had built a connection with everyone of them. They had depended on him for various things, and sometimes depended on him just being there and now he couldn't.
And Hotch wasn't sure if they'd be able to handle that.
When the Reaper took Derek Morgan's life he also took something away from the team and Aarong Hotchner was determined to make him pay, no matter what.
