I was watching "Prodigal Father" and wondered: what if Jack heard what Mac and Sue were discussing?

Quick question: are they in Bobby's house? Or are they borrowing the house from someone? I've never quite understood that. Myles has his own house, but he can freaking afford one. Then again, Tara lives in a house, right? And D… But Lucy, Sue, and Jack live in apartments? Hm… I think Bobby lives in an apartment that resembles a house, maybe.

Anyway. I own nothing.

"You two make a formidable team," Mac commented, petting Levi. "And a lovely couple."

Jack smirked from his chair across the room, flipping through his magazine. Yeah, he'd buy that one. Sue and Levi were a pretty good match.

Mac paused before lowering his voice and adding, "As do you and that young G-man."

As hard as Mac tried to stay quiet, Jack still picked up on the statement. When the comment registered, his interest was piqued and he listened more intently.

"Jack and I work well together," Sue agreed slowly.

Jack nodded to himself; yeah, that was true. Being her training agent had been fun; Eldridge had made a good decision there.

"That too. Though it seems to me there's something more there."

Jack frowned at Mac's observation, his nose still buried in the magazine should Sue or Mac steal a glance his way.

Was there "something more," as Mac so aptly put it?

Sure, he and Sue were friends. And yeah, they were a good team. And the observation had been made before—and not just by their coworkers.

Truth be told, Jack had started noticing it, too.

In fact, he had been interested in Sue from the beginning. From the moment she'd walked into his office ranting about how she wanted a better job, he'd been intrigued by her. And over time, they'd gotten closer. He'd noticed it, and he was sure Sue had, too. It was just that neither of them had done anything about it, because, well, the Bureau has rules, y'know.

"We're just friends," Sue insisted.

Jack blinked.

Yeah, he'd expected that one.

He probably would've used it himself if Mac had been talking to him.

"May I give you a little piece of advice? Never con a con man."

Jack knew Mac was smiling-he could hear it in the man's voice when he asked Jack to come play cards.

This was going to be a long night…

End note: Eh. Lame. But I wanted to add a little something to the scene. Thus, a look at what Jack might have been thinking. Because, really, if he's a trained FBI agent, he's bound to pick up on stuff from across a room, right?

Words: 325

Time: Mer. An hour or something.

Other: Um, I'm working on some other STFBE stuff, since I've got the complete DVD set now! I got the first volume for my birthday a few months ago, and then I found out that the whole series was being released and HAD to have it! So I bought it. For like $80. And I've been watching the series on and off ever since.

I've been watching the reruns on ALN on weeknights, but… being able to watch any time I want is pretty freakin' sweet!
