Little Things
You think he doesn't see the little things you do; the little traits you have. You think he doesn't see you snatching a glimpse of him from the corner of your eye every time you pass each other, you think he doesn't notice your hand reaching across the table to his when he has a painful flashback you wish to ease. But most of all, you think he doesn't realise it's you that comes into his room at night and strokes his cheek when he's screaming at nightmares too horrific to understand.
But he knows it's you.
You believe him to be so oblivious to your concern when in fact he's just too bitter to accept and acknowledge it. You believe that while you know everything about him, he knows nothing about you. But you're wrong again.
Haymitch notices those little hair flicks you do when a tendril falls in front of your eyes. He knows that when you're nervous you bite your bottom lip and curl your hair around your finger. He knows very well that when something bad happens you prefer to be left alone in your room. But above all, he notices your eyes through the little glimpses you allow each other. Those blue eyes that are usually alight with a spark so fine, he believes Cinna's inspiration for the tribute's parade outfits came from you.
You are so infinitely unaware of how much you both know about each other, how much you wish to learn about each other. How much you wish you could ask him, but you are too afraid to irritate him you refrain from such triviality. How you are so unaware of the screwed up pieces of paper in the kitchen bin, painted with questions he yearns to ask you but can't.
That although you see each other every year, you still don't know everything about each other; small things such as his favourite colour or why he always wears that ring on his fourth finger upon his right hand. Things that you wish you knew, but always bailed out from asking. You know only each other's exteriors, not the whole person.
So maybe you should ask, because you never know how much he wants to ask you, too.
A/N – This is the first time I've written in "Second person tense." A very quick one-shot I decided to write after the film! And let me tell you now, it was AMAZING! It's met my expectations and so much more! Gary Ross cast the actors perfectly; they were their characters through and through! So if you haven't seen it yet, go and watch it! You won't be disappointed! (Although the cave scene/Rue's Death could've been developed more and given more screen time) but above all, it was perfection and it stayed so close to the books!
Everyone in the cinema also saluted Rue when she died! :')
Anyways, if you enjoyed this, Please Review!
Thanks, Katie1995. :)
