Despair
LalxColonello Deathfic
He was just flying, his bird carrying him over the trees, when he heard it. More specifically, her. But he didn't know that yet.
He had the bird carry him through the treetops near the noise, before landing and quietly going on foot. The noise got louder.
It was labored breathing, the breathing of a woman.
He turned around quickly so he saw, his rifle in front of him. He almost died of shock. "L-lal! You're-" he was going to say an adult, but then he realized one very, very important thing: Lal Mirch-the love of his life-was dying.
She raised those pain-filled eyes to his blue ones. Her eyes started to fill up "Colo . . . nello."
He took an uncertain step forward.
Her hand-that slim hand that's fought so many battles-lifted, and lightly touched his hair. "Thank you . . . Maya."
Colonello's eyes widened. He held the hand that was getting weaker with each passing second. He saw her struggling, trying to say something. He put his ear next to her mouth. The words left her lips and she quietly died.
He never forgot those precious words.
Later, when he saw the very alive Lal Mirch, talking with Maya, he saw the scene and the words so clearly. Even as Lal kicked him for staring at her, he saw. He looked at Maya and saw those expressive eyes turn sad. The eyes that were bright with intelligence and-hard to believe-youth. Those eyes that were, at the same time, old and wise. They were sad, so incredibly sad for him.
He heard the words once more.
"I've always loved you Colonello." Lal had said.
