Snow
"Look, Li-Kun. Isn't the snow pretty?"
Shayoran shrugged and nodded. "I guess." But you're more beautiful. Ha. As if I would ever say that out loud, he thought, adjusting his backpack.
Sakura spread out her arms and began to spin. "I wish it would snow everyday," she sighed. She ran ahead of Shayoran. "What do you think?" she asked, facing him.
Shayoran closed his eyes for a minute, thinking. "Yeah. It is pretty after all."
Sakura smiled. I knew he would say that. That's why… that's why I love him.
Shayoran, still thinking, stepped off the curb.
"LI-KUN!"
What happened next was a blur.
Shayoran opened his eyes and sat up, rubbing his head. "Sakura? Sakura!"
"Oh my god."
"Did someone call an ambulance?"
"They're on their way.'
Shayoran turned around standing up, immediately feeling dizzy. There, in the middle of the street, was a crowd. Pushing through the crowd, Shayoran froze. Sakura was lying on the floor. Blood around her. Soaking her uniform.
"No. NO! Please God, no. Not Sakura." Shayoran begged, kneeling beside Sakura. Grabbing her hand, he began to cry. "Why, you idiot? Why would you do something so stupid?"
Sakura smiled faintly. "Because I love you," she whispered, closing her eyes.
Sakura squeezed her hand. His tears fell on her face. "Sakura. Open your eyes. Please. I… I … I love you." He clenched his jaw.
"SAKURA!"
(One year later)
Shayoran grabbed a handful of snow, and then allowed it to fall between his fingers.
"One year ago. I can't believe it happened a year ago today."
Shayoran took her hand, kissing it gently. "I can never forget it. I still regret it. But one thing came good from it… you. If it never had happened we probably wouldn't be together."
He squeezed her hand. "I love you so much… Sakura."
Sakura squeezed back. "I love you too L- I mean Shayoran-Kun. And I'm sorry that my passing out scared you."
Shayoran hugged her tight. "You have no reason to apologize. And promise me you would never try to protect me like that again. Your safety comes first."
Sakura kissed him. "I promise," she said, turning around to watch the snow.
Shayoran, holding Sakura's hand, gazed at the snow as its pureness fell around them. Remembering. Never to forget. The first time they said those three magical words.
"I love you."
