Annabeth knew her Seaweed Brain wasn't as stupid as he made out to be. This she knew as a fact. A fact as evidenced by the fact that somehow, without her knowing, he'd started a rowing club.

Well, not a club exactly, but they had a boat. One.

And the boat was a quad scull, apparently. Four rowers in the boat, two oars each. And a coxswain at the stern.

They had a crew, but they were missing a coxswain, which, she assumed, was the reason why he was telling her.

Personally, she was amazed at the crew he'd put together.

Percy was in stroke seat. That actually made sense. He used the water to push the boat forwards and was the powerhouse of the crew. Literally.

Frank was in three seat. Apparently, he wanted the exercise. Annabeth couldn't complain. His Mars-given strength and natural bulkiness made him the perfect three seat. At least, so she was told.

Hazel was in two seat, for fine control. She used her precious metal powers to move the oars around (The oars were made of Celestial Bronze for just that purpose)

Jason was in bow seat. He was in charge of controlling the winds around the boat. He removed headwinds and used them to push the boat forwards. He was also in charge of sneak attacks on other teams – one burst of turbulence to knock them off course was all it took.

That left the coxswain, or the cox. The cox oversaw the direction of the boat and shouted orders and encouragement to the crew. The cox was possibly the most important member of the crew, and had to have their complete trust, after all, the coxswain was the only person who could see where they were going.

That was why Annabeth was so surprised that he'd asked her. Of course they trusted each other with their lives, they'd fallen into Tartarus together after all. But it was rare that Percy trusted her with this part of his life, the part that was permanently, irrevocably Percy and Poseidon's. She wasn't implicated. At all.

So Annabeth was stunned when Percy asked her to be his coxswain. Understandably so. But she really shouldn't have been so surprised when he then told her that they had a rival crew made of Nico, Leo, Calypso and Will with Piper as their coxswain and that their race was tomorrow.

When she finally managed to splutter all this out to her grinning boyfriend, she had a moment to dread the sparkle in his eyes before he kissed her.

"Sorry Wise Girl, the race is next week. Still want to cox?" he asked her.

"I'll cox you forever Seaweed Brain!" she exclaimed, scandalised that he thought she might not want to be on his team.

Annabeth would be on his team. Forever if needed.

Deleted scene (not as much fluff)

"Although, how did Nico get on the team?" she mused. Percy just laughed.

"Also, the name of the boat is the Reconciliation," he told her. "Because we have five natural enemies on the same team. Poseidon, Athena, Zeus, Hades, Ares."

Just a rowing one-shot I came up with. Google any of the terms you aren't familiar with. Part one of two.

Also, my first time writing fluff. I hope it came out OK.

Tell me what you think!
