A dark-haired girl lay sobbing on the floor. Her only form of comfort was the arms of her brother, wrapped around her shaking body.
"Why didn't he love me," Gigi cried. She not only cried for herself, but for everything. For the fact that she had been manipulated like putty. For the fact that the one person she thought she could trust wasn't there for her.
Darcy rubbed circles into her back. "Gigi, the fault is not yours. The blame lies with me. I should have had him followed."
Gigi paused. "Why…How?" Darcy began mentally smacking himself. How could he be that stupid to let his secret slip?
"Gigi," Darcy shifted. "You are understandably upset. I think it would be best for you to rest."
"No!" Gigi violently stood up. "Tell me! Tell me now!" Darcy sighed. He knew this day would come. He just did not think it would be so soon.
"Sit down, Gigi." He said gently. Gigi cautiously obeyed her brother. "There is something I have not told you. Something that I, and Aunt Cathy, have hid from you." Gigi's eyes grew wide. Darcy rubbed his temples. Where should he begin? "George Wickham is an arms dealer. We believe that he intends to supply several terrorist groups with nuclear weapons. Of course, we cannot be sure."
"Why didn't you tell me? And…and what about Pemberly…" Gigi couldn't finish the sentence. She couldn't bear to know that everything she had ever known was a lie.
Darcy ran his hands through his hair. "Pemberly Digital is a front for our organization. Aunt Cathy runs it. All of her companies are fronts. And I didn't tell you because I did not want you involved in this. How could I ruin your life by dragging you into something that could hurt you?"
Gigi squared her shoulders. "I want to join." She said flatly.
"No."
"Why not?"
"Because you are too young."
Gigi rolled her eyes. "There are people younger than me in Pemberly Digital."
"Yes, because we recruited them."
"Then recruit me!"
"No."
Gigi huffed. "I want to help. It's because of me that he's destroying the world!"
"It is not because of you." Darcy said firmly.
"Yes it is," Gigi insisted. She reasoned, "He found me because he wanted to find out what you were doing. The money you gave him just gave him an opportunity to hurt more people. And it wouldn't have happened if I hadn't become involved with him!"
Darcy pinched the bridge of his nose. "Alright." Gigi lit up. "But," he raised a finger, "you will not be actively trained as an agent. Instead, you will be helping hide Pemberly Digital's true purpose from the rest of the world."
"Okay." Gigi agreed. Anything to take down the man whom she had helped.
