A/N: Well, this is my first attempt at a Doctor Who fanfiction. I'm afraid it's not very good, because words can't even begin to describe how much I love this show and everyone in it.
I'm not sure which companion's point of view this is from. I didn't focus on any specific Doctor, either. I just let the words flow, and I hope you like how it turned out.
It's just a box. It's not important.
Sure, it's a beautiful shade of blue. Sure, that wheezing, groaning noise it makes gives you goosebumps in the best possible way. Sure, it's bigger on the inside, and so powerful it takes your breath away.
But it's just a big, blue, box. The really special thing is the man inside. A man - well, not really a man at all - you love with all your being.
He has two hearts. He's an alien. You might as well love a little green Martian, and at least you could grow old with it. But when you see him, that wonderful man, laughing and pulling levers and outsmarting everyone - your heart begins to beat faster. The fact that he has known so many people and been so many places fascinates you in a way you can't control. And when he is rumpled and distracted, or cheerful and funny, or dejected and frustrated, you want to be there to smooth his shirt and fix his hair and laugh at his jokes and tease him for the silly mistakes he makes and kiss him when he's being brilliant and lose yourself in his arms. You want to love him until you die.
But he won't die with you. He will move on, mourning your loss until he finds someone who fascinates him as much as you once did. And then the face you knew so well will change, and the way he smiles and laughs will change, and you won't be there to see him through it. Someone else will.
And besides, it's not like he'll ever love you.
So you stay quiet. You hide your feelings as you wander this world and others. You suffer through sleepless nights and broken hearts and tears - lots of tears.
But it's okay. Because you get to be with him.
You get to be with that beautiful madman, and that makes you the luckiest girl in the world.
