Just a tiny one shot for Zack I made while listening to a video. I guess I just really got into thinking about what Zack may have been thinking about at the moments where he actually got the chance to sit and think. Maybe not the brightest of moments, or thoughts, but they were still there and I imagine with everything he was going through Zack was searching for some sort of answer. Freedom. Light. And hope.
Disclaimer: I don't own Final Fantasy, and neither do you. Oh well.
A sense of fear passed through the young ex-SOLDIER as he knew what he was facing, it made his hair stand on end... Smiling, he could only guess that his best option would be to accept it and fight it to the finish if it was so dangerous. He looked up at his buddy, slung over his shoulder and passed out. "We're gonna find freedom… No matter what the price." He said, barely raising his voice above a whisper even though… Well Cloud wasn't awake yet. He hadn't really fit the term awake since Zack had busted him out of that tube. All he could really hope was that Cloud would wake up soon, Zack couldn't keep running like this. Like he could do everything, stop speeding bullets, protect everyone from harm…
"Why is it… That when we're trying to save someone, that's when we get scared the most. We try and do what's right, do good things instead of bad things, like… We don't give up?" The words, the questions, the confusing feelings swept across Zack like a storm as his hands gripped the handle bars of the motorcycle tightly. The cool air reminded Zack of what someone had done a long time ago… When Angeal had asked for his help. Angeal had asked Zack to lend him his strength, to go against his
"Flying is a very nice feeling." Zack remembered his mentor's words, the full effect hitting him today. As he felt like… Everything wasn't going to be okay. But he would still find his freedom. On some terms… Life would still turn out alright, he'd still see Aerith someday soon, Cloud would wake up and be okay. The young man stole a deep breath for life and continued riding, hoping for the best.
"Even when it looks like someone turned out the lights, there's still light left somewhere. Otherwise you'd lose your way and not be able to see anything right?" Zack remembered his mother asking him this when he was twelve. Only a little more than a year after he left, his mother's words his inspiration for protecting people. Someone like Sephiroth proved to him that she was right, even in the worst of places or situations you could find good. So what better way to express that than through protecting people? Providing their light for them so that they could do good things too. Today felt different from the others, and despite his friend's lack of communication… He felt like Cloud knew it too. Something unchangeable would happen today, and soon. Midgar… "What do you want to do when we get to Midgar?" He asked his friend, knowing Cloud could hear him even if he couldn't reply yet. This would be a new beginning… Right?
Tiny one-shot yes? But... I hoped at least some people enjoyed it. This one-shot is really just a garbled mess of curiousity, a hint of depression, and a handful of love for Zack Fair, one of the very best characters ever thought of. Despite him dying and not being real, he's been a really good role-model for me this past year. So I hope you guys enjoy my little idea of peeking into Zack's thoughts on his way to his grave...
