sneaking about the back alleys
Secrets lived in the back alleys; they thrived from them. On the main streets he would have been followed by suspicious glares and frowns, but in the smaller and less-used streets he was free.
Strictly speaking, Gumdramon wasn't even supposed to be in this city. But he couldn't help it; it was nothing like the one he came from, soft and gentle and ordered with the Imperial-looking palace in the middle, for the King. Not that the king lived in the palace; it was more for meetings and other official matters – but the point was it was too ordered for him. He needed to be free.
And forests were great and all, but Gumdramon also wanted the taste of civilisation once in a while. Sadly, he was a born trouble-maker and most of the cities and villages in the area watched him with caution. That wasn't fun at all, but it was better than his city, where his every move was scrutinised and judged.
This city had back alleys where he could do whatever he liked, and only the dark walls watched him, unjudging.
