Arashi: This is a request for Queenofshire405 who wanted a Smithers/Burns oneshot. This idea actually came to mind more of an unrequited love type of situation that constantly seems to show at times on the show. It's rather what if Smithers finally reaching the point that his own employer doesn't have those said feelings for him and this is his thoughts would be if that's the case.

To Move On

Summary: After trying to hide back his feelings for his boss, Smithers isn't sure what to do anymore since it seems his feelings aren't going to be return. Can he risk giving Mr. Burns a kiss and a soft whisper of love you and leave? Or will he better be off leaving not once seeing the shock expression in those eyes of his.

Hearing his boss's voice, Mr. Burns, talking rather soothingly and rather sweetly on the phone causes Smithers's heart to ache in his chest. Tears pierce at the corner of his eyes at the sound. How long has he been with Mr. Burns only to do the one thing he been warned by many, not to fall for the man. Despite that entire he fallen hard for the frail man who given him plenty of scares of passing on from the world as it is.

Smithers done plenty he could to give the man a hint of his feelings but it seems he's rather obvious to them. Especially this morning he decide to place a flower with the man's breakfast only to receive a cold look from the beady eyes.

The comment from the man burns into his mind, "Smithers what is with this smelly thing doing with my food? It's not even worth to eat with it there. Take it away."

He tried not to take the comment seriously but it did bother him. What should he do? This thought rings in his mind making him wonder if he should resign. Would it help him able to move on from Burns before something horrible happens to the man and makes it harder for Smithers's to continue with his life? His heart breaks hearing the conversation come to a close before Burns hangs up getting ready for bed.

The first drops of tears rolls down the man's cheeks. Just hearing Burns saying he love who ever he's talking to hit in straight in the heart. He wipes the tears away hearing his boss calling him in. He pulls up a smile watching the calculative look before it disappear.

"You can head home now Smithers. I'll be fine for the night."

"Yes Mr. Burns," Smithers answer ducking his head feeling rather useless and goes on his task putting the medicine for the man to be taken in the morning.

He knows he's stalling but it might as well be now. He has to state his feelings even if it's not return. Hopefully he will be able to move on and love again even if it takes time. He soon hears the familiar breathing pattern alerting him that the man fallen fast asleep. He moves closer to the bed ready to turn off the lap.

He bends down kissing the man's lips whispering, "I love you, Charles Montgomery Burns. I'll miss you."

He rights himself up turning a dark read and dashes out of the room not once seeing Burns waking up with wide eyes hearing the man's words. He didn't bother calling Smithers back since what be the point. He already has someone cares for greatly. He loves Smithers but not the way he deserves. The tired old man sighs and falls back to sleep wishing the man the best of luck of finding someone that can truly love him the way he deserves.
