Crimson-Eyed Angel
DISCLAIMER: I own neither Phantom of the Opera or Escaflowne. End of story.
NOTE: This poem is written like new lyrics to the melody of "Angel of Music" from Phantom of the Opera. Originally, I planned this poem-song to be the theme of a story I had in mind but the longer I thought about it, the less the plot appealed to me. The original character seemed so angstily Mary Sue from any perspective and he story seemed so melodramatic that I've decided to give it up. At any rate, I still loved the song so I decided to post this as a kind of tribute to Dilandau (the crimson-eyed angel). I know, it's ironic, he's far from an angel, but see my sonnet about him and you'll understand more. Besides, despite his pyromania and sadism, he is a tortured soul and it is possible for a character to fall madly in love with him. It's a one-sided relationship but nevertheless, there's love there. So that's what this poem is all about. Another thing is that in the story, Dilandau inadvertently rescues the original character from mortal peril. It's important for it to be unintentional because, as we all know, Dilandau hates heroics.
I'll end my ranting here. Please read on!
Look at this place, a tarnished wasteland
Where is the home I knew
Who are these monsters, what will they do
Help me escape, someone
My heart had yearned for a savior
I used to dream he'd appear
Now as I move in this new world
I have found him here
Out of the depths of endless sorrow
I have emerged safely
Reaching out for your hand, I follow
Trying to act bravely
Dearest phantasm of fire
I will remember your name
You whom I truly admire
Set my heart aflame
Crimson-eyed angel, don't desert me
Stay by my side, guide me
You who had come to my aid promptly
Save me once more, angel
Crimson-eyed angel, fill this longing
Free this soul from torment
Lead me away to hear your song and
Cure me this vile ailment
Abandon your fears and your fancies
Leave all your sadness behind
Open your eyes and discover
For you soon will find
Your crimson-eyed angel, full of passion
Mighty and yet fragile
Both broken souls belong together
Immersing in true beauty
Abandon all notion of sorrow
Nothing there is left for you
Look with hope to your tomorrow
You must start anew
Crimson-eyed angel, trapped in darkness
Living in a nightmare
Demon they call you in their madness
Blood you have spilt for this
You are denied of redemption
Cursed to a life of despair
Why can I not even help you?
All your pain, I'll share
You haunt my dreams, I cry out for you
Your sole response, silence
Though worlds away, I know you hear me
Why leave me in suspense
Too long I've waited for this chance
The moment of truth had arrived
But why was our fate so distorted
That you disappeared
Who is this being who replaced you
Where did she hide your soul?
Why did you have to go down that road
One that I can't follow.
