A/N:
Title: Conversation on a Quiet Night
Category: X-Files (MSR)
Summary: A conversation between our two favourite agents. Just fluff.
Rating: G – good for everyone.
Spoilers: I don't think so, but just in case, you may need to have seen up to the later portion of season 5 to fully understand this story.
Disclaimer: Neither of these two crazy kids is mine.
As I mentioned earlier, I'm posting all of the stories I've written over the years. Some of them are just fluffy (like this one), and some of them are a little more in depth. None of them have extremely strong plotlines or X-Files in them, so I'm sorry to disappoint in that respect. I'm just not that great of a writer. I wish I was, because I've read some amazing stuff.
Thank you to everyone who gives me feedback. I love it more than I can say. I don't always PM back because I always think I'm bugging people just to say thanks (even though I like hearing back from authors when I review), so I'll do it here. Thanks. :)
"I was married once."
"I know."
"Really? I thought I had hidden that one well. It was a disaster. Better forgotten."
"What happened? No, wait, you don't have to answer that."
"Do you want to know?"
"I'm not sure."
"Two emotionally needy and somewhat selfish and manipulative people should not get together. It was crazy and crazier, and I was the former, not the later. I haven't laid eyes on her since."
"It wasn't Diana?"
"Oh god, no. She was too controlling to even let me spend more than one night in a row. And she never slept here. It was a woman I met at the DAs office. She took the low income cases, where no one wanted to believe anything the clients said cause they couldn't speak a sentence using proper grammar or read a word longer than four letters. She thought she could save them."
"She doesn't sound so bad."
"No, she wasn't so bad. I don't think I loved her as much as I loved her compassion for others. She felt for Samantha and me. She had family issues, too. Anyway, lesson learned. It was annulled, actually."
"Annulled?"
"The marriage only lasted four months. That's a month longer than the courtship."
"Do you miss her?"
"No. It was for the best, the clean break."
"Do you miss being married?"
"I miss... I miss the companionship. I miss the idea that someone is supposed to always be in your corner. I miss sleeping next to someone. I like to cuddle, you know."
"I can imagine."
"I know, I'm pretty tactile. Sorry."
"No, it doesn't bother me. I've gotten used to it. So, you've sworn off marriage?"
"No."
"Oh?"
"Marriage is great for all the things I mentioned, but only if it's with the right person. I would just do it right the next time."
"I should hope so. Do you think you'll know what's right or who's right?"
"I think so. Would you ever marry me, Scully?"
"Mulder..."
"No, seriously, would you?"
"Would you ever marry me?"
"Yes. In a heartbeat. Before you even finished asking. When you've done it the wrong way, it becomes obvious what the right way is. The question remains then, would you ever consent to marrying me."
"... Yes."
