Lucy was comfortable. After climbing that cold mountain to get stupid herbs, Natsu climbing into her bed in the middle of the night was kind of nice. Not that she would ever admit it, but Natsu has the body and heat. Literally.
Natsu clumsily tried to avoid the things that were abandoned on the floor and slowly slipped into Lucy's bed not knowing that she was already awake. So when Lucy made more room for Natsu to climb in, he has been suspicious.
"Luce? Aren't you going to kick me out or something?" Natsu asked but Lucy did nothing but scoot closer to him snuggling to his chest.
"Just sleep before I kick you out." came her whispered reply. Both of them were sleepy but Natsu continued making a conversation anyway.
"Are you exhausted?" Lucy felt him face her. She muttered a yes and opened her eyes to meet his. "What about you? Aren't you tired at all? Sleep." Natsu yawns but giggles anyway.
"That's weird."
"You're the one who's weird, Luce."
"Let me finish will you." Natsu giggled once more and Lucy shifted uncomfortably under her sheets. "I've never heard you giggle before." Lucy stifled a yawn.
"It's the sleepiness. It's getting into me. Sounds gross, huh?"
"No. It sounds good. But we should probably go to sleep." Lucy yawned once more making Natsu yawn too, in response.
"Okay then. Goodnight, Luce."
"Goodnight. I love you." she whispered into his ears and he replied. "Yea. Okay. Love you too."
The silence after that was comfortable until Lucy froze. Natsu was about to ask her what's wrong when he froze too. Shit, shit, shit, Lucy cursed. It slipped out of her tongue and came naturally and he actually responded?!
"I'm so-"
"Don't." Lucy cut off his sentence not thinking anymore. "Don't apologize for saying it. I'll probably regret this in the morning but for now, let's sleep." Natsu hummed in approval and pulled her closer while she relished the warm skin of his.
He wondered why she would regret it. It was the bravest thing he's ever done, he thought as his mind drifted to sleep.
