AN: Inspired by a recent viewing of the History Channel documentary "The Godfather Legacy", as well as my reading of the book "The Family Corleone". That's an amazing book, by the way
The scene before you isn't out of the ordinary. Beyond the cemetery gates, you see a young woman in her early-twenties, kneeling at one specific tombstone. She's talking, but her words are too soft to hear. You take a moment to study her. Her chestnut hair waves in the slight breeze. She sports a small, warm smile, and there's a unique focus in her almond-shaped dark brown eyes. In her pink-and-white striped turtleneck, dark blue jeans, and black ankle boots, she looks like the picture of all-Americanness. But take a peek under the surface, and you'll see she's anything but. She loves her country, of course. However, it's the mark her family has left on said country that's shaped her lifeā¦and not always for the positive. She feels isolated, trapped rather than protected behind the walls of her home compound. It's rare to find a true friend, who isn't also in the lifestyle. She's always looking over her shoulder.
She supposes this reputation comes from her grandfather, over whose grave she's kneeling. He's lined up beside his brothers and father. She never met him, being born shortly after his death, and some in her inner circle say that's a good thing...mostly her grandmother. She carries not just his last name, a name that sends chills down the spines of everyone who hears it, but she also has his pouting mouth and eyes. The eyes are said to be the windows to the soul. What did that mean for her future? Was she meant to suffer the same fate as her grandfather, to "die like a dog" as the old saying goes? Was corruption in the blood, or could she truly make her own choices? As wary as she is of his reputation, she does have a form of love for him. She hopes he's proud of the life she's leading. Sighing, she places a yellow rose at the base of the tombstone, and she blows a kiss to it before standing up and walking away. If you'd been standing close enough, you'd have been able to read the name on that slab of marble: Corleone.
AN: Forgot to mention one thing. Much of this girl's personality will be inspired by Mal from the Disney movie "Descendants". They face a lot of the same problems. So, I figured that'd be a good reference point.
