Summary: It's always hard to let your children go. What if they aren't ready to leave? Or worse, what if YOU aren't ready for them to leave?
WARNINGS!: If you were looking for smut, I'm sorry to say that you have come across the wrong story, though please feel free to read through it anyways. Who knows, you may find that you like it. :)
Disclaimer:I am not J.K. Rowling, and I'm sure you would never mistake me for her. But I DO enjoy playing with the lovely world she created. :D
Author' Note:I'm rather disappointed in the site at the moment. Shocking, I know. I wanted to put this story under Jane and John Granger, but they weren't on the character list. Very disappointing indeed. The Giant Squid isn't on there either. Sighs. What IS the world coming to? Anyways, I'll cut to the chase. I always wondered how the Hermione' parents felt about sending their only child to Hogwarts, and so I wrote this little oneshot to satisfy my curiosity. I had fun writing this, and I hope you enjoy reading it. :)
Imminent Departure
Mr. and Mrs. Granger watched tearfully as their only child walked towards the scarlet steam engine. A bulky book clutched within the small circle of her arms, her bushy hair disheveled and her chocolate brown eyes sparkling with excitement. She was ecstatic... and they were missing her already.
"Are you sure that she'll be alright at that magic school John? She's only eleven after all..." Jane Granger asked tearfully as their daughter waved to them one last time before disappearing completely from view in the crowd of children waiting to board the train.
"She'll be fine Jane- she always is." Her husband answered with quiet confidence, though his eyes betrayed his worry.
"She's not like normal children." Mrs. Granger responded worriedly, causing her counterpart to laugh.
"We are standing in a train terminal filled with witches and wizards love, how could that possibly be normal?" He asked, eyes sparkling with mirth, which was apparently not appreciated by his lovely wife, if the glare being sent this way was any indication.
"I just hope that she'll be okay without us," Jane Granger said, deciding to ignore her husband' attempt at humor for the time being. "You know how hard it is for her to make friends..."
John smiled crookedly, "Our Hermione does love her books doesn't she?"
"I just hope she is ready." Jane whispered.
The train whistle blasted once.
Twice.
Three times.
"Me too Jane, me too." John whispered quietly, and was immediately drowned out by the final screech of the whistle which signaled its imminent departure.
Silently, they watched as the iron beast carrying their beloved daughter gradually disappeared into the distance in a final billow of charcoal smoke.
Hand in hand, Mr. and Mrs. Granger slowly turned towards the barrier that would take the back to the Muggle World.
I always thought that it would be difficult for muggles to send their children so far away, into what is in affect another world, one they have no real knowledge of or experience with.
