Prom. Something every girl dreams of. It's almost as important as her wedding day. It was on this day that Clare Edwards found herself sitting in the courtyard, crying her eyes out. She had a bad track record with dances. Just once couldn't one work out? Of course not she thought to herself.
Jake Martin. Her childhood best friend, who dumped her at prom. She wished she'd seen it coming. She couldn't help but wonder what she'd seen in him. Could he have simply been her rebound boyfriend? She doubted it. If that were the case then she wouldn't be here crying her eyes out.
She heard the sound of heavy footsteps.
"Jake, just go! I don't wanna be around you. "She said coldly, not looking up.
Without a sound, he sat down next to her. "Clare, I'm sorry," An all too familiar voice murmured. It didn't belong to Jake.
"Go away, I told you we're done," She whispers harshly.
"Relax; I'm not here to win you back. I just needed to get away from the dance." The voice said quietly.
"Where's Imogen?" She asked, still looking down.
"Let's just say she and I are better off as friends. She likes someone else," He replied.
"Who?"
"Mo." Clare looked up to see him smirking, his all too familiar green eyes looking straight into her blue ones.
"Sorry, Eli," She murmurs, sitting up.
He shrugs his shoulders. "Don't be. I had my shot with her, but I blew it," He said with a sigh.

"Do you think we could try again?" She asks, a small glint of hope shows in her orbs.
"I'd like that," He replies giving, her a small smile. "Let's just take things slowly; hang out over the summer as friends; see where that leads us," He adds as she nods her head in agreement.
"You have no idea how good that sounds," She says, grinning. This is the happiest she's felt in a long time.
