"So your sure? You want me to go?"
Nudge's lip was quivering; none of them seemed happy, but they didn't seem to be changing their minds either.
I nodded and swallowed. "Okay, then. Later."
I turned and sprinted out through the smashed deck doors, bounced off the deck railing, and launched myself into the sky, which seemed a million times bigger and wilder than it ever had.
I was blinded by the pain, and was crying so hysterically that I couldn't see.
"It hurts, it hurts." I screamed. How could I live through this? I landed rockily on the other edge of the gorge, the house out of sight.
I was alone, so alone. I wanted to die, anything for this pain to end.
My eyes darted down to the bottom of the gorge. I could do it... just jump, wings tucked in tight. It would be so simple.
No, max! I forbid you! The voice said desperately. And we all know how I react to being told what to do.
Face set in determination, I jumped.
"I'm sorry." I whispered as I plummeted.
Fang sighed, running a hand through his hair. This isn't good, this is too rash. He began to turn around when Angel screamed.
"FANG!" The blonde girl cried, her eyes wide and terrified.
"What?"
"GET MAX! SHES TRYING TO KILL HERSELF!"
There were horrified looks on each and every face in the room, but Fang didn't stop. He crashed through the doors and flew, feeling as if he couldn't breathe.
"You idiot, don't do it. Please please please." He hoped, flying faster then he ever had before. He had just gotten around the corner of the gorge to the other when he saw her, plummeting, wings tucked in tightly.
"MAX!" He bellowed, willing himself to fly faster and faster. But then he heard the muffled but audible thud.
No.
Fang reached the area the woman he loved landed, and saw something he would never forget.
Max, so strong, broken, mangled, bloody. Her eyes flickered weakly, and she saw Fang, falling to his knee's beside, and was shocked to see him crying.
"Fang..." The blonde whispered hoarsely. His head snapped up, and he listened intently.
"I love you." And then, the girl who had mothered the flock, broken bones, been kidnapped and shoved in the face of death time and time again, breathed no more.
Fang didn't know how long he was there, but somehow he had scooped up the lifeless body of the girl he loved, and flown back to his home.
He was met with horrified and crying faces, Angel seemed to be hyperventilating. They all looks his way when they heard him enter, and the first thing Nudge did was throw up. Gazzy made a strangled cry and Iggy didn't seem to know what was going on.
"She's...gone."
