Wednesday

Zuko and Mai laid on a blanket staring up at the cloud filled sky. They had decided to go out for the day.
'That one looks like a baby turtleduck.'
Mai followed Zuko's outstretched hand. 'And ugly baby turtleduck.'
Zuko just laughed. It was her seventh time making a sarcastic or snide remark to his interpretations of the clouds.
'Why are you so down on good things?'
She just ignored him. This was an old argument that he had trouble letting go. He couldn't understand why she saw the world as black and white and he saw colors.
'Can you not see the joy? The happiness?' He was standing and walking around now. 'It takes more muscles to frown than smile.'
'I like the workout.'
'I just want you to experience happiness and joy. To smile.'
'Joy isn't endless and happiness isn't forever. Beside, I do smile. Or have you forgotten?'
'I haven't forgotten,' he said. 'It could be you know.'
She sat up. 'What could be?'
'Do you know what today is?'
'Wednesday,' she said dryly.
'No. It's the day I change your outlook on the world.' He walked over to her and lifted her up then got down on one knee. 'I know you don't really believe in happiness and joy but I want to spend the rest of my life trying to convince you they're real.' He reached into his pocked and pulled out a small black box. When he opened it a fire colored diamond ring was revealed. 'Mai, will you marry me?'
Tears welled up in her eyes and she smiled a genuine smile since, she couldn't remember when. 'Yes,' she said tearfully.
He put the ring on her finger and then kissed her passionately. After the kiss she hugged him tightly.
'I never believed in happiness and joy but I always believed in you. I love you.'
'I love you too.'
