"Lord Sesshomaru?" Rin piped after some time since they had passed the grave markers. "Why do you get to lead the way?"
"Stupid girl!" snapped Jaken. "He's our liege! Lord Sesshomaru goes where he pleases!"
Sesshomaru didn't slow his pace, nor did he turn around. "Rin, what do you mean?"
"Well," she trotted up beside him, "I've noticed that I've always had to follow you, and that's always been okay with me." Rin said the last while glaring at Jaken. "But when I get older, will you ever follow me?"
The dog-demon's brow crinkled just the slightest. For some reason the grave markers flashed in his mind again.
"Ah, m'lord?" He'd fallen silent so suddenly.
"Yes, Rin," Sesshomaru swallowed, "some day you shan't follow me any longer. Then, perhaps, many years later, I shall follow after you."
"Really? Yay!" Rin pranced over to Jaken. "See? Toldja so!"
The imp rolled his eyes assuming Lord Sesshomaru had just said that to appease the brat.
Sesshomaru, however, kept walking with his gaze skyward, lest the tears fall.
