He looked across the river. It cut cleanly through the trees, creating such a natural boundary. One side and the other.
Fireheart finally saw the division as what it was: foolish. Funny how a simple river could so bitterly divide two groups of so similar cats.
The green globes of his eyes flitted about, looking over the rushing moonshine before him. The moon had rebelled, shining down to the earth, blending with the water. They formed a silver liquid which pumped through the heart of the forest. The rebel moon shone also upon the trees and earth. A thick, shimmering light coated all that was around. The earth, the water, the wind. This light even embraced the darkness and the two danced a dangerous minuet among the fields and forests, perhaps even to the edge of all that was. The moon, the stars, the sky. They held it all together, so why shouldn't it stay together?
The cats rose up against their unified destiny. They let landmarks of the earth divide them and created codes of honor which tore them apart.
He kept these codes close to his heart, but couldn't help breaking them once in a while. He knew when the right time to "meddle" was.
Fireheart gazed to the stars with a reverent air. He prayed quietly.
His eyes eventually fell downward and he found himself fixated with the opposing bank of the river once more.
A shadow was wandering amongst the other shadows. A pair of eyes reflected the moonlight. Then, nothing more was to be seen. The figure merged with the darkness of the night. He felt the gaze upon him a moment more. The glance felt friendly and familiar to him. He knew, without a doubt, the identity of the figure. Graystripe.
Fireheart made a silent vow to himself. No matter what, he would always be friends with Graystripe. Internally, he'd known this all along, but he needed to swear to what he believed in, even if it was just inside of himself. The divisions were on the land, but not in his heart.
