I think I'll write a poem for every character in Wolf's Rain, I've got one for Blue and Toboe already, so here's one for Tsume. It took me a while to get an idea for him.
Instinct
What is Instinct? I don't know.
Perhaps it's not something you can show.
In the city streets Instinct is nothing.
Instinct doesn't get you shelter,
Instinct doesn't get you food.
What is Instinct?
The moon shines high, and from the runt comes a cry.
A black machine is rising from the snow.
My leg is wounded, but we have to go.
The machine shoots, we have to run.
We have to get away from that thing's gun.
The red one will distract it, while I run away.
Still I cannot go far, it's in my way.
The thing locks on, I now the end is near.
Suddenly there's a snarl, that makes the machine veer.
The white wolf is attacking, I stumble out of the way.
So does the white wolf, as if he does it every day.
He grabs a spear of ice, and smashes the thing's gun.
We see our chance, now it's time to run.
Behind us the snow caves in, enveloping the machine,
But it is still moving and I know what that means.
The white wolf watches it, with a steady gaze.
Suddenly it's dead, along with it's killing craze.
The white wolf returns, just a little worse for wear.
I ask the question that I alone share.
Why did you save me?
Instinct
