The smell of burnign wood from the office's white arble fireplace hovered over the fresh scent of cool rain that seeped in through the open balcony doors. Outside, the once angry drops that had just moments ago sounded as though it would beat the earth out of existance.. now seemed to weaken. They trickled and tapped on the windows and stone balcony floor in a calming and soothing rhythm, but not soothing enough for Seto. There was far too much that wracked his mind and weighed heavy on his heart. His once cold and emotionless blue eyes, were now full of pain as they stared out those open doors at the scene that lay beyond them. Dark grey clouds stretched as far as the eye could reach, darkening the mid afternoon sky to a deceptive late evening hue. The warmth from the fireplace kept back the chill air that had come to join the ordeal. It also served as the only light in his office. Even his laptop was closed, wherever it had managed to wind up.
The office in which he stood in was in complete disarray. Papers were scattered about, having landed wherever they had chose to place themselves. All the pens, pen holders, phones, folders, and everything else that had once called the top of his desk home.. now lay strewn about the floor around it. One of the two big leather cheairs that once sat slightly angled in front of his desk, now rested upturned. It's companion rested with it's back against the wall, having left a trail of slide marks across the hard wood floor extending from it's original position. Even the wall behind his desk now held a scar where his fist fit perfectly. Moments ago, he had been the angriest he'd ever been. The entire room was a picture of just how poorly he'd managed to control his own emotions.
Now, he stood by the open doors as the rain fell, holding on to the one thing in this world that could bring him to that point. He had finally found something that could destroy him. Just a month ago, he had vowed that if anything like that were to cross his path, he would destroy it before it could destroy him. But that was before. He tightened his arms around the tiny waist of a soacking wet girl with shoulderlength black hair. Her school uniform was soaked through, the green dye from the jacket was starting to bleed into her white shirt. Her face lay burried in his chest while her tears fell as rapidly as the rain. Her words seemed to cut him from every angle. "I don't want to go back there... I don't want to leave you..." He swallowed hard at the lump in his throat as he turned his head, resting his right cheek flatly on the top of her head. His decision on the matter was based on what was best for her, not what he wanted or she wanted. In just a month, this girl had managed to turn his entire world upside down. The wooden door on the far side clicked open to reveal a tall slender figure of a man, the hall light peaking over his form. "Mr. Kaiba..it's time." The girl in his arms tightened her grip, her fists balling up the back of his trench, almost like a death grip. He closed his eyes in response. He had to make his decision now.
