This is the first ever fanfic I have posted
It's a short story about an elder ranger called Aurisha
As I crawled through the undergrowth with the rest of my ranger group close behind I find that we are only 50 meters from our target; a small space marine encampment, we crawl to a suitable spot to observe the camp.
After an hours observation I send 2 rangers forwards to check for traps that could hinder a strike force, as they broke cover a small squad of marines came into my sight, thoughts racked my mind 'had they spotted my men?' my thoughts were answered when a hail of bolter fire cut them down, they began to move towards our position, I had to make a decision quick.
My rifle flared in my hands its shot piercing the neck of a marine he fell instantly as the others turned to return fire the reaming rangers opened fire dropping them before they fired. Within seconds fire erupted from the encampment a heavy weapon flickered into life its rounds smashing into the vegetation around us as I looked right to signal I saw the ranger next to me's head cave in as a bolter round hit him square in the face. I could now see at least 30 marines charging into the woods towards us their bolters chattering, I knew the 4 of us left couldn't stand against them so I gave the signal to retreat.
One by one my men slinked away further into the woods as I turned to join them my body was twice racked with pain a round had passed straight through my shoulder leaving a gaping hole while a second round smashed into my hip. I fell to the ground unable to move, as consciousness left my shattered body I wondered…..
