A/n: Spoilers (in the Radio Times and What's on TV) are pointing to there being some totally awks conversations between the nuns and the nurses about 'recreational intercourse' complete with bundle of mischief Delia Busby defending the use of the pill for unmarried couples who get 'carried away' in episode 5.7. This is what might happen next.
The nuns leave the dining room, off to compose themselves before Compline; Nurse Crane heads into the clinical room to see to the autoclave; Trixie goes to get changed for her keep fit class; and with the three of them left, there's only one topic of conversation.
Patsy can't bear it. She stands. 'Tea, anyone?'
Delia and Barbara nod their yeses, and she heads into the kitchen to fuss with cups and the kettle. Even there, though, she can't help but hear the conversation that's going on without her, hushed as their voices are. She can tell that Delia's loving every minute of this. She wants the ground to open up and swallow her.
'But Delia, what you said - have you - forgive me,' Patsy can almost hear Barbara blushing. 'What you said about getting "carried away." I mean - you haven't ever, have you?'
'Ever what?' Patsy doesn't have to see it to know that there's a gleam in Delia's eye, that she's feigning an innocence that she certainly doesn't possess. Patsy holds her breath, desperately, willing Barbara to stop.
Barbara doesn't stop. 'You know, got "carried away."' Her whisper carries into the kitchen. 'Like you said. With a man. You've never done that, have you?'
'Oh, "carried away"? With a man?' Patsy hears Delia say, her tone low and confiding. 'No. No, I've never done that. But - '
The cup that she's holding falls from Patsy's hands into the sink with a clatter.
'Everything alright in there, Pats?'
'I wasn't going to say anything,' Delia says later. 'Not that, anyway. I'm not stupid, Pats.'
Not stupid, no, Patsy thinks, as Delia's hand makes it onto her knee. A devil for mischief, though, absolutely.
'Now,' Delia grins, her thumb sneaking its way under the hem of Patsy's skirt. 'On the subject of getting "carried away" - '
