"Just concentrate, Kairi. The more you concentrate on trying to remember it, the faster it will happen," Sora said.

"I'm trying," Kairi replied through clenched teeth.

She really was, but it wouldn't work. That was mainly why she was so annoyed.

It was frustrating, really. Not being able to remember anything from your past. It was as if Kairi was born here in Destiny Islands, at the age of five. Unlike babies, though, she already had been able to walk and talk and think…but not remember.

Memories. The main thing that connected you to your past. Without it, you were clueless, lost. She felt clueless…and lost.

Kairi felt like she had no identity, because you couldn't be someone when you didn't even know what you were first.

She was nobody…

Why couldn't she remember? Had she banished her memories and her past because it had been too shocking for her to cope with it?

More and more questions arose as time passed and Kairi got older.

Did she actually have parents?

What about her friends?

Did someone out there miss her, even if it was just a little bit?

Kairi had already tried different methods in order to get the memories of her past back. So far, nothing had helped. This time, however, Sora had come up with something to solve this problem. She had no idea how he had come up with it (sometimes, Sora was really strange), but she was sure it wouldn't help. She would give it a try, though. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?

It was simple enough. She was blindfolded, while Sora gave her different objects, all with a different smell. The idea was that if she didn't see what it was, she would have to dig deep into her memories to find something that could lead her to her past, or something like that.

So here she was, smelling tea, old and dusty books, flowers, and (possibly) Sora's old smelly sneakers (although he had firmly denied they were his).

Suddenly, there was a flash, and then…

She was sitting in a dark room, listening attentively to a sweet old lady. She was telling little Kairi her favorite story about how Light and Darkness came to existence. She loved happy endings…

The library of Radiant Garden was huge. It smelled of old books and knowledge. She was so excited to see this many books. Grandma had probably read all of them already, since she was so old…

Aerith's nickname really suited her. The Flowergirl. Her garden had definitely the most beautiful flowers.

Suddenly, there were flashes of shadows, moving really fast around her, preparing to attack her. She screamed and held her hands in front of her head, but then there was a flash of blue who made sure that nothing happened to her.

The woman was so pretty…

….

After playing hide and seek, Kairi and a little girl that wanted to be a ninja, decided to cool off their feet in the cool water of the fountain. The girl's sneakers were really smelly…

"Kairi! Kairi, are you okay?"

Suddenly, Kairi was back in Sora's house, sitting on the comfortable red sofa. Her blindfold was gone, and Sora was looking so worried that it almost made her cry.

"I-I'm fine. Guess I kinda spaced out, heheh."

That was a lie, and she was sure that her fake, awkward laugh said enough.

"Did you remember anything?"

The curiosity was written in his cerulean eyes. (The eyes she had started to love.)

Kairi looked away when she replied with, "No… I'm sorry, Sora."
