"Hot dogs! Hot dogs! Hey, you want a hot dog, kid?"

"Mom, can I get some candy-floss?"

"I wanna go in the front!"

"No, I wanna go in the front! Let me in!"

The screams of children on rollercoasters, the smell of sweet junk-food, queue upon never-ending queue of young children and grown-ups who had to pretend that they were having fun. A young Matthew Williams looked around. He was at an amusement park with his brother, Alfred and the British gentleman, Arthur, and they were waiting eagerly to go onto a large Ferris Wheel. Arthur had been trying to be as patient as he could, and Matthew respected that. Alfred on the other hand, didn't.

"Can we go on yet?" he chanted for the hundredth time. Matthew saw Arthur grit his teeth, trying not to yell at Alfred. He already had when Alfred had refused to put on his coat, and he didn't want to yell again in case Alfred stormed off in a strop. In a queue, however, Alfred wouldn't be able to go anywhere, but yelling would cause unnecessary attention.

Over on the other side of the amusement park, eating a tomato whilst sitting on a bench, Lovino Vargas scowled. He had wandered off from his grandpa and his brother. They were beginning to annoy him. Even worse, his big brother, Antonio Fernández Carriedo, had decided to come along too, to 'keep an eye on Lovi'.

"Spanish bastard," Lovino said, in between bites of his tomato. "I can look after myself!" to prove this to himself, he stood up and began walking around the amusement park. "I've got money, and I know the way out of this stupid park."

He also did not at all want to run into his brother again. Feliciano was always rather… clingy. He stuck to their grandpa like glue and his grandpa always looked out for him. It wasn't fair! Feliciano is always Grandpa's favourite! Lovino thought angrily. And Grandpa never takes any notice of me! Maybe I should never go back. I don't think he would miss me. Spain would, though. It would serve that moron right! That's it! I'm never never going back home!

A pink and green cart came round and Arthur paid for the three of them to go on the Ferris Wheel.

"It's about time!" Alfred said to the woman behind the kiosk. "Geez, how long does it take?"

The woman behind the kiosk looked concerned as Arthur ushered Alfred and Matthew into the cart. Alfred immediately bounded over to the bench and knelt on it, gazing out of the window. Matthew sat down calmly. Arthur sat on the bench opposite.

"Now, boys," he said firmly. "Sit down and don't rock the cart."

Matthew nodded, but Alfred said a sulky 'alright' just before the Ferris Wheel began slowly rotating, taking the little cabin up towards the clouds.

Lovino found himself watching the Ferris Wheel. There passed a yellow-and-pink cart, a blue-and-yellow cart, a pink-and-blue cart, a pink-and-green cart, a green-and-yellow cart… Lovino frowned. He was staring dumbstruck at the pink-and-green cart. At a blond-haired boy gazing out of the window. There was another boy there too, but he was being told off by an older blond man. Lovino found himself gazing right back at the blond boy, and the blond boy gazing right back at him, into his eyes. And, in this still, perfect moment, they knew it was love.
