It's dark in here. So dark. Why can't I see? Where am I? Am I alone?
Daddy? Daddy, where are you? Daddy, I'm sorry, please don't hate me. I tried, Daddy, I tried! Daddy, please, I need you. I'm so scared.
Zuzu? Zuzu, I'm sorry. I never really hated you. You're my big brother. I still remember all the fun we had when we were little, before Daddy was Fire Lord and Mommy left. I'm sorry I hurt you, Zuzu. Please forgive me.
Mai? Ty Lee? Don't leave me. Please don't leave me here! I'm sorry, I'm so sorry! I don't know what happened, but I need you! Both of you! Please...
I'm alone...and it's dark, and I'm so cold...
...
Mommy?
Mommy, is that you?
Mommy, I'm so scared. Please help me. Save me, Mommy.
You're the only one who will.
Ursa knelt next to Azula, careful to keep her voice even. "Azula? Azula, my love, it's me. It's your mother." Her hands gently stroked the girl's matted locks.
Azula raised her head, haunted golden eyes meeting her mother's gentle ones. She whimpered, reaching out as far as the shackles permitted.
"Mommy," the broken princess sobbed, trembling all over. Ursa's heart shattered as she gathered Azula against her, rocking her gently as if she were three years old and waking from a bad dream.
"Shh." Her voice shook. "I'm here, little one. I'm right here. It's all right." Ursa choked back a sob. "It's all right."
Azula burrowed into her mother's chest, quiet whimpers making her body convulse. "Mommy," she cried, clinging to Ursa. "Mommy, don't go..."
