What am I thankful for?

It was thanksgiving afternoon and the group was camping out in the woods for the evening. Ash and May were cutting vegetables while Max helped Brock roast a turkey for dinner. They had the turkey spinning slowly above a small fire as Max was seasoning it.
"So Ash, what are you thankful for?"
"Lots of things. How about you?"
"The same" said the girl as a small strand of her hair blew in front of her face and she pushed it back behind her ear.
"Dinner's ready!" yelled Brock
"Alright!" cheered the two kids and they sat down to eat.
"Before we begin I'd like everyone to mention at least one thing they're thankful for" said Brock
"I'll start. I'm thankful to my siblings for always being there for me"
May smiled warmly at him
"You next, Max"
"Oh, Okay. I'm thankful to May for being such a good sister"
May's smile broadened
"Aww… that's so sweet Max, thank you" she said sweetly and kissed him on the cheek. Max smiled shyly and rubbed his cheek where she kissed him
"Your turn May" said Max
'Well Okay. I'm thankful to Ash who has been a good mentor and very good friend who was always kind and nice to me and at some times very sweet" she said and turned to him with little blushies on her face. He smiled back at her with his cheeks slightly red
"Thank you May" he said shyly and softly
"You're welcome" she smiled at him. After a few seconds she asked
"What are you thankful Ash?"
Ash stirred uncomfortably for a moment
"Well actually I'm thankful for you, May"
"Me?" she asked slightly surprised. He nodded
"Having you around on the trip makes me feel like I have someone I can really talk to. Having you guys around but you in particular May gives me a sense of identity on my journey to become a Pokémon master. I feel lucky to have a friend like you with me and I'm thankful for that May. I'm thankful…"
May's eyes sparkled with tears, touched by his words. She quickly wiped them away and embraced him in a hug. The others watched them warmly as Brock whispered something in Max's ear and they both left to give the other two some privacy.
"You know something Ash?"
"Hmm?"
"I also feel the same way about you… I like you… a lot…"
"I like you too…"
"Ash, I mean that as in like you-like you…"
"I know. I feel the same way"
"You do?"
"Yes…"
"I'm glad" she smiled and separated from the hug. She kissed him on both cheeks and then on the mouth, leaving him in shock. She then grabbed a plate and started chowing on a drumstick. It took Ash a few seconds to process what happened. When he did he smiled broadly. He tapped May on her shoulder and planted a kiss of his own on her lips. When they parted he said
"Now we're even"
May smiled at him and gave him a plate with a chicken and some mashed potatoes
"Happy thanksgiving Ash" she said happily
"Happy thanksgiving May" he said happily as they ate together in a happy silence…
