I don't own Naruto. Yeah. I know. But I do own Rikka. She's all mine. -evil laugh-

If Somebody Loved Me

"Rikka-chan... Some people can't comprehend... Don't... be... hateful..." Surimi hugged her daughter for the final time. Rikka couldn't get her tears to stop pouring.

"But... mommy... why don't you just use your magic... Just make your pain go away... Stop crying mommy..." She buried her face in her mother's hair, dampening it with her tears.

That was seven months ago. Today happened to be that little girl's birthday. Her 5th, to be exact.

The door burst open. "Hey!!! How are meh girls??" He came every year on her birthday. It was the only day he came to visit.

Her eyes lit up. "Daddy daddy daddy!!"

He laughed and picked her up. "Is your momma workin' overtime again?"

Rikka frowned. "Mommy isn't here anymore. The mean people hurt her."

Her father didn't turn angry. He didn't break out crying, either. But the sadness in his eyes was easily apparent. He hardly knew her. They were from two different lands. Her from Sunagakure, him from Konohagakure... Regardless, she was still faithful towards him. She agreed to carry the seed of this dreaded fox demon. Truth be told, they really did love each other. However, seeing her once a year allowed him to move on simply. "Mean people, babe?" She nodded. "I guess that means I'm taking you home with me today then." He bounced her on his hip.

"I don't think so." A threatening figure stood in the doorway. "It was hard tracking you down. You thought the human body would distract everyone from your fox demon inside..."

He growled. "Leave us alone. We're just like everyone else."

"You and that demon child of yours... DESERVE TO DIE!! Don't worry, I'll send you to see your wife." He grinned.

Rikka jumped out of her father's arms. "No!!! You won't hurt daddy too!!!"

Her father growled louder than before and pushed her out of the way. "So you're the one that killed my Surimi... My love..." He couldn't manage to sustain the jutsu masking his form. His fingers turned to claws, his normal teeth to fangs, his ears and his tail became visible. He still wasn't in his full form yet, though. "You're out of your league... You'll never beat me..."

"That's what you think."

Rikka read her father's movements. They told her to get out. She pounced out and looked back. It was true. The man didn't stand a chance. He took the cowardly way out and just decided to light the place on fire. Neither of the two got out.

Rikka watched. A silent witness to the murder of both of her parents. Just like that, both of them were gone, along with the only safe place she had left to stay at and all of her things. This was one birthday candle too big to blow out.

A/N: I know, no Gaara in this chapter. I promise, he'll be in the next one! Oh, and in case you're wondering, that means that no Naruto will be in this story. Since the fox demon died and all, it's just easier to say Naruto never existed.
