One minute. That's the amount of time Sarah and Chuck had been given to say goodbye.
Sarah stood there, tears glistening in her eyes. One minute wasn't enough.
Chuck stared back, trying to find the right words. "Sarah, please," he begged. "I can't go, I'm not ready."
A single tear rolled down Sarah's face. She couldn't think of what to say.
"You can't do anything, can you," Chuck realized painfully. His heart was being split in two. This was it. This was the time he had to tell her.
Sarah shook her head. She did have the gun, but by the time she could pull it out, another would be aimed at her. This wasn't supposed to happen. The first thing Sarah had learned as a CIA agent was to never get attached. But she had, and now the blonde was paying for it. Still, even though it was a mistake, Sarah knew that it was the best mistake she had ever made. Finally someone had made her feel normal, made her happy when she was sad. Chuck had made Sarah realize how much she wanted to settle down, raise a family. By now tears were spilling from her eyes. "Chuck, I'm so sorry. This isn't your fault, none of this was meant to happen."
Chuck put his hand to Sarah's face and wiped away some of her tears with his thumb. "Please-find the ring and give it to Devon. Tell Ellie and Awesome and Morgan-and everyone. Tell them I love them. Make up something, something that won't hurt them too much. And if you can, maybe you could even go to the wedding. You know-if you get to stay." His eyes were red and puffy.
Sarah choked out a sob. "Chuck," she whispered.
"But hey, there's a silver lining to this, you know?" Chuck tried to be optimistic, but his throat had a hard time letting words come out of his mouth. "We're not working together anymore. We could go on a date. You can come by my cell and we can hang out and-and maybe we can," He took her hands. "Maybe we can say how we really feel."
Sarah cast her head down. They both knew that that was going to be impossible. Her superiors would never let her see Chuck again.
They both were crying now. "Listen," Chuck said. "I don't know how much time I have left, but I couldn't leave without telling you how much you-how much you've affected me. I love you." The last three words were a mere whisper.
Sarah gazed into his eyes. "I love you too, Chuck."
Their faces inched closer until their foreheads were touching. She brought her lips closer to his.
"Time's up."
Sarah stopped, heartbroken. She had never felt as terrible as this, not even when she had been forced to leave her family. Sarah put her hands around Chuck's neck and started to sob uncontrollably into his shoulder.
Chuck pulled her into one last hug. "I'll never forget you," he whispered into her ear.. "Maybe one day-maybe I won't have all this stuff in my brain and they'll let me free. And maybe if you're not working for the CIA anymore-maybe then we can see each other again. Start over."
Sarah nodded. It took up all of her energy just to stay standing. Her brain was too upset to think of words.
Chuck backed away from her and slowly walked towards the man who was going to take him to his new home. He looked back at Sarah. She was a wreck. Her face was covered in dirt and tears, her eyes red and puffy. And the color of the agent's eyes-they were no longer the bright blue Chuck had come to know and love, but a dimmer color now, more gray than anything. He wanted to run back so badly, but he knew it would only make things worse. Chuck couldn't say another goodbye, couldn't look Sarah in the face again and say that he had to leave.
He heard a shot behind him and turned around to face the man who was going to take him to a cell. But the man-Chuck's captor-fell to the ground, dead.
and then everything else happens in the episode and yeah...
