Dancing on Knives

The cat

Bounded the streets of the city

Its tattered tail batting furiously

Each time its padded paws hit

The cracked pavement

In its mouth

A small bouquet of flowers

The uncut stems already slicing

Into the cat's rough tongue

The feline seemed determined for some unknown reason

Dodging cars every so often

As it made its way in the rain

Its shabby fur becoming drenched in a sea of mud

The cat looked rather unusual

On its head

Looked as if a glinting coin

Adorned it

The cat let out a terrible "MROOWL," as it heard an approaching car

The vehicle's tires screeching as it skidded along the street

It proceeded to jump up

Unintentionally slamming into a small, nearby tree

The tree's sharp branches cutting into the cat's skin as it landed

The cat grimaced slightly

Morning's light rays becoming blinding as it awoke

Feeling as if it had just been to Hell and back

Awoken to the sound of cars speeding

It stretched out its claws

Digging them into the moist ground

As it began to purr softly

Starting to think it rather had been sent

To Heaven instead

It had noticed

A note of apology wrapped messily

On the tip of its tail

From whom the flowers were intended

As well as the bouquet being gone from it mouth

Maybe now it would get some respect

It thought

As it licked, licked, licked its mess of tangled fur

Its wounds already beginning to heal
