He'd pretended

that it was a normal goodbye,

pretended that he'd be here again tomorrow,

that the world didn't shift and bend away from them

There were no tears in his eyes

as he kissed him,

made that spark feel alive

yet again

There were no tears

as he whispered goodbye against his lips

and there was no tears as he turned away and walked off

Rei felt weak

at the knees

though his heart sank

like a concrete weight drowning him

He stared off

and wondered if Nagisa's lips

had always seemed so smooth,

his touch so gentle,

his eyes immune to crying

The world shifted away,

quicker now as if taunting him

Rei stared down at his feet

and felt the crushing weight of loss

even though he knew that Nagisa was only

a college away,

It felt as if he'd never return

Rei bit his lip,

hating instantly the taste of blood

and yet didn't fight back the weak impulse

of missing him,

of missing the boy that was once his boyfriend

He stared down at feet

and only saw Nagisa curl closer for a moment,

loving every touch,

cuddling close,

legs intertwined

like that of spiderwebs

Rei sighed,

fighting the urge to cry again

as Nagisa didn't shed a tear

as he left his life for good

Rei couldn't help the lump in his throat,

the wetness of the tears that he refused to let fall

or the fact that he missed him

though he'd always known

that they'd leave each other's sides

for their dreams.
