Thunder cracked through the silence, ripping through the silence of the night. Lightning sent a snap of light through the windows, slicing through the late night darkness.
The castle was still, quiet at this time of night as the kKing and his son slumbered. Guards patroling the long halls in silence, their steps leaving unheard sound to an untrained ear.
Shadows loomed down the clear wall. There was a goal in mind, and someone lurked through those shadows. Hidden behind a statue of the king, his face remained hidden by a dark hood. He pressed against the cold stone of the statue as two guards passed by. Their eyes glued to the hall infront of them.
Hours of no action had probably dulled their vigilance. Though this shadow had heard the guards of this castle being on the dull side. The hooded figure watched the guards turn the corner.
It jolted out from the shadows and down the hall on the opposite side from the guards. It's feet leaving even less of a sound than the guards.
The shadow stayed close to the inner wall. The cent lined with statues, leaving a long cast of darkness over the wall. Another bolt of lightning lit up the hall sending the shadows rising against the walls. Destroying some of the creature's hiding as it tore through the space between the statues.
As the darkness returned, the shadow returned to his journey just as quickly. Turning corners and finally reaching the tall bedroom door of the King's. A smile slide onto the thing's thin lips.
It opened the door gingerly, and a growl bellowed out the door. The man froze. Afraid the beast inside had discovered his presence. But after a moment, it was obvious it was only the King's snoring.
The shadow slinked closer to the bed, a large bump was a top the dark bed. Black blankets covered it, and it slowly rose and fell, matching the low growled snoring of the beast underneath.
The dark being grabbed something from the brown sack on at it's side. Pulling out the letter and looked for a good place to plant it.
A scaled hand caught the intruder's eye. The tan scales covered a large hand, bigger then the shadow's head. Thick fingers lead to sharp, white claws. The palm rested open, fingers curled slightly, making a perfect place to stash the letter.
Carefully, the intruder stuffed the paper between the monster's fingers. Another smile spread across his face as he quickly turned to leave. Looking back for only a second.
"Good bye, Bowser."
