Beaches weren't his thing -- too many people, not enough shade and the sand that would inevitably make its way into his shorts was far from the top of his 'nice things' list. But Genichirou loved them, so he went; choosing to stay on his blanket under the umbrella while Genichirou tore through the surf flinging water at some of the other guys and girls.
There were some things, Renji supposed, that were nice about beaches. The sun setting over the water, the cry of a gull and maybe eve that age-old story of someone finding a message in a bottle.
Somehow the idea of sending a message in a bottle was, while a bit silly, romantic to him. One of those things he couldn't explain, but the very thought of it - someone so desperate for something to do such a reckless thing to get it, without even knowing whether it would be found or not.
The sun had gone down without him noticing; so lost in thought he hadn't been paying attention to anything and probably would've stayed longer -- Genichirou was going home -- he probably should too.
His message in a bottle could wait until another day.
